Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 NOOK 8" Black 3.9 out of 5 based on 0 ratings. 25 reviews.

This is an excellent tablet. It's apparent that Samsung built the Galaxy Tab S2 to compete with the iPad. The size of the NOOK model and its aspect ratio are great for reading books and browsing websites. I previously had the NOOK Tablet and the NOOK HD+. The NOOK Tablet had great battery life and standby time, so it was great for reading, but limited as a tablet because it only had access to the NOOK app store. The NOOK HD+ started with the same limitation, but then later, with a software update, opened up to the much larger selection of the Google Play store. A good number of Android apps were compatible, although a good number were not. Most of the apps I had on the NOOK Tablet also worked on the HD+. Although the software update really opened up the HD+ to become a more versatile tablet, the battery life and the responsiveness really suffered. On the Galaxy Tab S2 NOOK fewer NOOK apps are compatible, but on the other hand there are a huge number of Android apps that are compatible. The tablet is very fast and battery life is pretty good, although I wish Samsung had sacrificed a little thinness for better battery life. The Super AMOLED display is beautiful with rich colors and excellent detail in images. Actually the colors tend to be oversaturated by default, but I found that going into the Display settings and setting the Screen mode to Basic, made the colors appear more natural. I appreciate the inclusion of a fingerprint reader, which I use to unlock the tablet. To work properly your finger has to fully cover the home button. I was glad to discover that one of my password manager apps (LastPass) can use it to unlock the app in lieu of a master password. Android is known to be at a disadvantage when comparing the number of tablet-optimized apps available versus Apple's iPad, but I've been able to find a number of tablet-optimized apps. Samsung includes tablet versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Even those phone apps that aren't specifically optimized can sometimes do well on a tablet. Instagram, for example, looks fantastic on the Galaxy Tab S2 NOOK, in fact better than on the iPad, which merely displays the smaller iPhone app surrounded by black bars (even when pixel-doubled). It's also nice to know that the Galaxy Tab S2 NOOK can get Android software updates directly from Samsung. Mine originally came with Android 5.0 but soon received an update to 5.1.1.

What the others before it SHOULD HAVE BEEN. It's a no-risk purchase. Here's why: 1) It's feather-light- even with the protective cover/pen combo I purchased- and allows prolonged one-handed secure operation and fingerprint unlocking without pain or fatigue; 2) It's whisper-quiet; 3) the screen is amenable to low light and direct sunlight; 4) the battery lasts a long time, even with reading large books (1000+ pages) with multimedia links once present only on DVDs; 5) excellent front-facing and rear-facing camera; 6) manbag- or purse-friendly size; (7) three free books and three free magazines; 8) $5 gift card; 9) larger storage than 8GB which allows for easier updating without havig to delete files; and, most importantly, 10) if you're a B&N member your purchase is discounted such that you get the $44.95 protective bookcover and the protection plan for the price of the nondiscounted unit without a membership! This unit's a slamdunk and so is the purchase price! Go get one and get use of the Microsoft Office free for two years! I really like this purchase and I think you will, too!!

The Samsung Nook Tab S2 8.0 is an excellent tablet. Web pages, movies, and photographs display beautifully. I held onto my Nook HD+ until a new Nook was available with resolution as good as the HD+ for reading magazines. Also, the HD+ was running an old android version, became very sluggish and shut down frequently for no apparent reason. It was time to upgrade. Owners of the HD and HD+ will not like the “home screen” of current reading as well on the Tab S2. The number of current reads is limited to four and these simply represent the last four items you have touched. Example: Move an older item to the cloud and it will appear as the newest item in the reading queue. You will get used to this but it is not as convenient as the older software version. The Tab S2 is very thin and this helps account for its light weight. However, it is also harder to hold onto than the HD or HD+ because of a slicker back and very slick sides. You will need to use a case with it. (I never used a case with my HD+ for three years and never suffered any damage despite a few falls from the elliptical machine to the concrete floor of the gym). The screen size seems ideal. Although it is slightly smaller than the HD+, in actual use this has been imperceptible to me. In fact, (are you Listening B&N?), the screen size would be perfect for an e-reader. The single and significant drawback to the S2 is when reading books and magazines. The text background color seems unstable, kind of dancing, and its color will change depending on the angle at which you are holding the tablet. I finally found a grey background with white text works for me but it is not as comfortable as the HD tablets. This is probably because of the OLED (organic light emitting diode) technology use for the screen as opposed to LCD technology. OLED (or AMOLED) accounts for the superior color rendition and deep blacks that can be achieved. I just do not think it gives as comfortable a reading experience. Bottom line: This is a beautiful tablet. It will take some adjustment if you are used to the HD line of Nook tablets. I am glad I bought it but I am keeping my HD+ stripped down to its reading applications, minus all the apps.

This was perfect tablet for Barnes and Noble to go with! The 8" Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is especially well-suited for use as an e-book reader. Very light-weight, big enough screen with super brightness and resolution while still being small enough to comfortably hold for extended periods of time, and travels well too. The 4:3 screen ration makes this equally at ease with books, magazines, and web browsing (No slouch at games/videos/movies either!). As a tablet, it is fast and smooth in operation. The 32gb ram give ample storage (yes, you can add a memory card, but having plenty of main device storage is important). I take mine with me everywhere, so I was happy to find that despite being so light, it is built solidly all the same. I have had a number of e-readers and tablets, and find this simply a joy to use. You can spend less for a good e-reader/tablet, and Barnes and Noble offer some fine choices, but without a doubt the Galaxy S2 Nook is a superior e-reader/tablet. I don't think anyone purchasing this will regret making the choice.

Definitely a wonderful upgrade from my Nook HD+. I was worried that going from a 9 inch screen to an 8 inch screen would be a disappointment. But it has turned out to be be "just right" in that the 9 inch screen even sometimes seemed too big or heavy. Of course it is great for reading, but handles everything else I do just wonderfully, movies look great and handles any app I've tried.

F I V E STARS! Tablet reviews? I have had iPad Mini 4's iPad Air 2's 1 Nvidia Shield K1 Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 (8"+9.7") The Barnes & Noble Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 NOOK = PERFECT!! This NOOK version is THE BEST version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2's! Samsung assembles this tablet version different because of the change in software (Nook applications ). This version seems to go through a second quality control check. (Because I have a lot of bad S2's from Fry's! AND Bestbuy! This is important to me because the Fry's Electronics versions were all exchanged by flawed S2's. Quickly, this screen is AMOLED turning off pixels for true blacks. Remember when you search for a new Television, and the salesman said about true blacks give the best color? SONY. The screen is constructed by Diamond tile pixels (displaymate (.)com) This tablet screen (Galaxy Tab S) won awards for the closest RGB colors in testing,at Displaymate. This S2 is the same screen as 'S', just different resolution 4:3 vs 16:10. (Verified by Email @ Displaymate (.)com) 2 green LED pixels per bundle in a diamond pattern (8" S2).This idea was created in testing from human eye tests. What don't we see if we remove a color from a photo. Taking away green color is the most noticeable to the human eye. During some video playback some color is removed. VHS movies (if I remember correctly) practiced this process to save room for more information in the tape. Longer movie. Photos of a leaf is mind blowing! Also, 2k video recording capability. Almost forgot, the screen has color modes. Over saturated Samsung look can be changed to Basic (normal), AMOLED Photo, AMOLED Cinima, AMOLED Adaptive, and Reading mode. At night, 8% brightness is suficient! Lol, it is amazing. Watch The Tonight Show on YouTube or Hulu on this is amazing! The shows with dark wood furnature richness is fantastic with this screen! AMOLED is LED=less power. The battery is a small capacity but 9+hrs with some adjustments watching and surfing. READING is a different story! Longer battery life. There is also a super power saver mode turning the screen black/white and limited to so much. (Emergencies only). CPU is 8 core. OMG! Multi windows multi windows! APPLE eat that! Power saving mode, adjusted by the UI, uses less cores for longer battery. 3GB of RAM! iPad Mini 4 has used 1.2GB RAM for OS, leaving 800mb to spare, out of 2GB causing glitches. The S2 has 1.5-1.7GB to spare. More RAM, smoother, more multitasking. Samsung keyboard has: 'Ctrl' key, Ctrl+C (copy), Ctrl+V (paste) features are rare! '' keys! Moving cursor between letters is a must! This goes on sale- $299 -10% B&N membership discount. $269.. It is the best deal your going to get for such a superior product. Quality, and craftsmanship (not only in build, but in software, and style), there is nothing on the market with this much class and feel and build out at this price point. Even a Micro SD card slot! I Read -negative reviews about this tablet, but turns out its about the 'discount' they did NOT get or about some app they are not going to have anymore. What does this have to do with a review about the TABLET. This is not a review about Barnes and Noble (sales or apps) it is about the Samsung Galaxy Galaxy Tab S2 NOOK. If the 'Thumbprint Reader' doesn't work, why didn't you exchange the tablet. There may have been a bad Thumbprint Reader on yours. :( It happens. Sorry.

Like some others, I was initially hesitant to move from my Nook HD+ to the S2 Nook. I'm an avid Nook user, and loved the branding and uniqueness of the B&N-designed Nooks. I didn't think I'd want a Samsung device, but after using this for several weeks, I can attest to the fact that it is a fantastic device. It has a beautiful screen - so much so that I jsut sold my iPad Mini w/Retina on eBay - and is zippy, feather-light and an absolute pleasure to read on. Newspapers and magazines are especially crisp and clear. And I like the Nook widgets better than I anticipated (though still not as much as the immersive experience on the last set of B&N tablets). I do wish the local B&N store had done a better job of showcasing the S2's strengths. The models on display did not have magazines, newspapers or even books loaded that would really show off the amazing screen and user experience. (This is one reason I waited a while to upgrade. Had the store models been set up to allow the tablet to shine by including better demo materials, I would have undoubtedly made the leap sooner.) I've kept, and still love, my HD+, but I'm also really glad I made the upgrade to the S2. If you're on the fence, give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. It's a beautifully made device that is, surprisingly, a really good showcase for B&N and Nook, too.

I would give this device 5 stars EXCEPT for this astonishing fact: Barnes & Noble customer service is the absolute WORST! I purchased my new S2 on 5-7-16. On 7-29-16 it no longer responded to touch and no longer registered my fingerprint. I could not turn the device off. On 8-1, I made a claim to B&N (or Samsung) and was told that even though it was under warranty, they would not replace it until the defective device until it was returned and examined by them. 5-7 business days and they'd email return instructions and shipping label. I am now 9 "business days" into this and was told today, no, we didn't have any replacement devices in stock when you made your claim. That's why it couldn't be replaced. Wait 24-48 hrs LONGER for email instructions, then 1-3 WEEKS for your replacement. I paid over $425.00 for this device when I bought it and B&N didn't have to wait over a month for payment, they got their money the very same day. I hold B&N responsible even though it may be a Samsung problem as B&B contracted with them to provide this new incarnation of the Nook. Honestly? The absolute worst customer service I've ever had. Bar none. And if one more obviously outsourced customer service rep tells me, with absolute insincerity, "I apologize", I'm going to scream.

Like other reviewers, I've owned every Nook reader and tablet and loved them all... I still can't part with the HD for sentimental reasons. That being said, the Samsung Galaxy S2 Nook is phenomenal. Seriously light, fast and gorgeous. I love the Nook adaptation and reading the new Serial Reads under Readouts. That whole section was a great idea. This tablet costs a bit more but it's worth every penny and then some. I agree with others that it is the perfect replacement for the iPad Mini. I just love Barnes and Noble Nook and now it's better than ever.

I've graduated through nearly all the nooks, including my much-loved HD+. But the Tab S2 is so excellent! It is light and elegant, with a beautiful display. It really does combine the immersive, integrated experience of the HD+ (the best e-reader of its generation) and a premier tablet, better than an iPad. Thank you B&N for facilitating this lovely nook/Samsung tablet, and for continuing to provide me with such abundant opportunities to read in such a pleasurable way!

I have had my Galaxy Tab S2 SM-T710 (8" Nook) for over a year and it is the best tablet I have owned! I also own the Nook Tablet, Nook HD+, Samsung Tab 4 Nook, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4" tablet (not a nook version) but the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 Nook is my favorite. I know it is more expensive than the others but it is well worth the price. If you check out the prices of Samsung tablets (non-nook versions) elsewhere then you will see that B&N's price is a fair price, especially when you get it on sale. Before I bought the S2 Nook, l bought a very nice Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4" (not a nook) at Best Buy (about the same price as Tab S2 Nook) which I was very happy with but I am happier with the Samsung Tab S2 Nook. They are the same speed but the picture quality and size of the Tab S2 is perfect for me. I'm so happy that I decided to purchase this device. I am giving my other devices to my adult children and friends because I no longer use them.

The Galaxy Tab S2 Nook is the third Nook I’ve owned and I’ve been very pleased with all of them…until last week. That’s when my new Tab 2 Nook and I took a 7 hour (cross country trip (transit time). My poor Nook died before I landed. It was fully charged when I left and it was in “airplane mode” for all of about 2 hours in the airports. On my return, the Nook was charged to 97%. I turned it on airplane mode before the flight and shut down “color,” B &W only. Before I got half way across country I was warn that the battery was at 20%. A while latter I needed to check something and attempted to bring the Nook to life, but as soon as it brought up the home page, it just “bleeped” out. And it did that multiple times before I gave up. B & N (or Galaxy) claims that the Tab S2 can play up to 14 hours of video. Go figure. Now, let’s see if Barnes and Noble pays attention to reviews on their products and they contact me…instead of my spending hours trying to get someone with enough authority to address this problem.

I HATE my new Nook!! First of all I can't transfer any of my old books, if I had known that I would never have gotten one, Then the few books I bothered to buy were Lost by it!! I repeat I HATE this machine, an d I so loved my old one. Let's see you do anything about this mess!

I love it. I see in my account that I've had it for a year now, and it has been wonderful. I say this as a techno imbecile who needs help with everything including the smart phone my grandkids forced me to buy. I'm a bookworm, and I don't care much about apps or at all about games, but I do like to shop online and the color and resolution are superb. Plus, this is a reading experience that actually compensates for the absence of a paper book. I especially recommend this for low-tech people like me because you can take it to a B&N store if you have questions. They are always friendly and helpful. I caught it on sale for $300, and it seemed like a fortune, but it was worth it. Originally one of my favorite features was that a pop-up would let you know if you already own the book. I have bought many a book that I read years before and disposed of--having that awful moment where you realize that you have read the book before and now remember everything that will happen. However, nook does not recognize a reissue of a title you may already own. I'm guessing the ISBN isn't exactly the same. So voracious readers should watch out for duplicate purchases. Bottom line: if you have the money, it's worth it even at full price.

Prior to purchasing the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 NOOK, I went to Barnes and Noble and asked if everything would convert over EXACTLY THE SAME AS IT APPEARED on my Nook HD and was assured that it would be identical to what I currently had. UNTRUE!!!!! The Library Shelves do not convert and when I when back to Barnes and Noble and asked about this the employee was extremely rude and said the Library Shelves do not convert. Also I found out that the Samsung Galaxy does not support any apps that I purchased on the Nook HD. I would never have bought the Samsung Galaxy if I had known that it was not going to be the same. I have gone back to using my old Nook. What a waste of money.

Perfect e-Reader & Tablet! This is my 4th Nook and by far the best Nook. My Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook was running low on space with all the book, magazines and apps so I bought the Tab S2. The screen is incredibly beautiful, crystal clear. Reading cookbooks and magazines is great. The processor is really fast for Internet browsing. The reading experience is perfect. The size of this Nook is perfect. I would recommend this Nook to anyone looking for an excellent e-Reader/Tablet.

Glad I updated from the Hd, faster, sharper, better color, protection from others, a few added apps, a tool to help add micro SD card, etc. Had no problem applying clear protective screen and cover is decent though I liked my New Yorker cover better. B&N Facebook was really good at answering questions to help me in setup. Wishlist is working but still wish I could remove books after I buy them, guess they're there forever. Only complaint is that local store personnel have become useless at answering questions and offering help.

I have no doubt that will NOT get posted. I've had my S2 for a few months with nothing but trouble. I have Samsung on speed dial. You get someone new each time you call, and then they say that one should not have told you that, etc. Finally they told me I have to send it back. So, we will see what happens now. How long it takes, if they can fix it. I can never get the money back I spent on it, so, we will see. I am looking at various devices I might want to try instead. VERY disappointed....

Please don't waste your money. B&N is slowly killing off of their digital features. Nook video no longer exists and many apps don't work anymore. As a longtime Nook owner I'm heartbroken to admit that this is a dying branch of the company. I'm a little worried about how long their Nook Books will last. Support their stores and go with paper, you'll never have to worry about lose something digital that you paid for.

Device is very light and easy to carry in my purse. Screen is very crisp. Feels like a samsung phone with a little bigger screen. For this price point, I expected the display to be crisp and the device to be fast, so no complaints there. Now the bad part.... Fingerprint signon does not work well at all, which is a huge drawback for me. The nook magically forgot my fingerprint AND my backup password after a couple of days of use, and I am locked out of my own device. I had to lock it with a pin, and still have to figure out how to reset these fingerprint and password without resetting the device. The other 2 stars I took off for BN's pricing policy. I wanted to purchase this device using a trade your old device "promotion". My device has a trade in value of $45 on BestBuy's website. BN gave me a $50 credit for my old device; however refused to give me the 10% membership discount. They insisted that they could not combine "promotions". I think that is ridiculous, I was not asking for charity, I was "selling" them my device for a fair market price and they absolutely owed me the 10% membership discount. So I PAID THEM $10 to take my device!!! Sounds to me like when I pay for membership, it's just to save $1 or $2 off a book, and when savings actually matter, its unusable. What a scam this "promotion" was....I have been a devoted member for years, but after this humiliating experience, I am so disgusted as to not want to shop at BN anymore. In the end the saving grace for BN was the manager on duty who was gracious enough to give me the discount after considerably long haggling.
