Not your expected novel but one that bears a tenuous homage to the Sherlockian mythos. Rather it is a rather intense story of political and sociological theme set in a violent and chaotic near future that in many ways is almost prophetic. A tale of struggling to find meaning and hope in the fractured remains of an America and world torn apart by politics and ideology, a society that has lost its way. This may one day come to be a literary classic

If you think that nothing new can be done with the Watson/Holmes narrative, you're in for a pleasant surprise. I'm only sorry that I have to wait until July 2019 for more.

Although there have been a bunch of bad Sherlock Holmes stories, I still feel I have to know what is being published or shown within that lineage. So I purchased this from my local Barnes and Noble store a few days after it came out and finally I found a great new story that relate to this friendship. It is more science fiction than mystery, I think, and that was fine with me. And it is Janet Watson's story starting similarly to John Watson's story from the original "A Study in Scarlet" where he comes back wounded from a war and is told about a person looking for a roommate. Sara Holmes is not as similar to Sherlock, but I found it fascinating to focus on Watson for a change. This Holmes/Watson is a great addition to the books about these two people and their relationship.
