NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4 REVIEW:  Is it wrong for me to want all the Dark Fae to die horrible slow deaths? I get a huge case of anxiety whenever I read about them. Fire Rising kinds followed a very similar plot line as Darkest Flame yet it was still a good story. I loved Tristan, yet at the same time I want to slap him upside the head. Boy, you need to learn about your past and deal with it in order to have a future. Geesh. Sammi is tough yet at the same time she is not. She has lived through a lot and that has made her harden her heart. Of course it takes a life and death matter to make her open her eyes. Silly girl.  All and all this was a good book. I love all the character that were involved in this mission. And I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series. I believe Kiril’s books is going to be a wild ride.  Disclaimer:  I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley & St. Martin’s Publishing in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.

I am an everything Donna Grant writes addict. The Dragon King books are amazing. I've looked forward to Tristan's book from the very moment he fell from the sky. I'm always reluctant to read a book I've looked forward to for a long time, it usually disappoints. NOT this one!! A great addition to the Kings. Loved Tristan and Sammi's book!

We finally got Tristan's story! I must admit...I read the first three books then skipped Kellan and Denae's book because I wasn't aware it was out for some odd reason. So, I'm definitely going back to read it. This book brought the Dark Kings and the Dark Warriors together and brought a little closure to Tristan. There was a lot going on in this book with Tristan recovering some memories and some family, finding his mate, Ulrik stepping up his game, the mob becoming involved, the Dark Fae clashing with the Light, and of course Con's sketchy behavior. All that added up to a damn fine adventure with the Dragon Kings. Looking forward to Burning Desire, which comes out in September. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

I love this series, it is full of hunky guys, capable woman, lots of action, steamy romance and dragons and all sorts of other paranormal folks. Its not necessary to read the series in order, I haven't, but you get a better picture of what is going on if you do. I can't wait to see what will happen next, and lucky for me I already have the next book all lined up, and I am reading them in order now. Very entertaining.

4 1/2 stars! Just like every other book in this series, I was drawn in and captivated by this world. Dragons have been here since before man. They became sifters to peacefully exist with the humans. That doesn't happen though. And the complications begin. Tristan's story is interesting. I'll admit that I was surprised that the newest Dragon King would be the subject to book two in the series. After reading it, I get why. Those dark are targeting who they see as the weakest link. Dang Fae. But what adds to Tristan's story is how he became a Dragon King or rather who he was before he became a Dragon King. He wants nothing to do with that, understandably. So the elements of that become woven into the story making this much more than a shifter romance. I think that's one of the things I enjoy so much about this world and Donna Grant's writing. While we don't have dragon shifter, we do have a lot of people that just don't get along. There is so much mirroring in this world and our that it adds depth and interest that I enjoy. Things are changing. Someone is after the Dragon Kings. They think they know who. But they are always surprised. I think there's more to it then we know at this point in the series. Old grudges run deep and revenge is best served cold. Much more to come. Sammie is Jane's (another Dragon Kings mate) sister. She's in trouble and heads to Jan for help. That just ends up exposing the whole can of worms her life has become. It's also where she meets Tristan. But Sammie is bound and determined to not bring this mess on her sister's head - or Tristan's. She stubbornly tries to fight her own battles. I admire her though she has no idea what she's facing. She's a good strong female character that I liked. Of coures, Tristan and Sammie together is explosively hot. And they resist the pull a lot. Both have reasons for trying to keep the other at bay. But they suck at resisting each other. Ha. I keep wondering about Constantine. I think that's one of the things I really enjoy about this series. There are lot of other kings who's story I want. His is one. Doubt is cast on him in this book. But I'm having a hard time believing it. I don't always agree with him (or any king for that matter) but he wants what's best for his kings. It's the beginning of trust on my part. More, I need more. I'm sure I'll be devouring the next book soon. I'm still in such a paranormal mood and these books just do it for me right now.

Title: Fire Rising - Dark King Book 2 - A Dragon Romance Author: Donna Grant Publisher: St Martin's Press Published: 6-3-2014 Pages: 385 Genre: Romance Sub-Genre: Gothic; Paranormal; Shifters: Dragons ISBN: 9781250051371 ASIN: B00GVRE6CE Reviewed For NetGalley and St Martin's Press Reviewer: DelAnne Rating: 4.75 Stars For centuries, the Dragon Kings have battled heaven and earth to protect their dragon magic. But when a beautiful mortal seeks refuge in their lair, she ignites a warrior's love, an enemy's wrath, and a firestorm of passion that could destroy them all… A WOMAN ON THE RUN Sammi Miller lives a quiet life as a pub owner in the Scottish Highlands—until the mob bursts in with guns blazing, looking for her ex-lover. Taking a bullet in the shoulder, she manages to escape and make her way to her half-sister Jane. Hidden away in the mountain fortress of the mysterious Dreagan Industries, Sammi finds more than a safe haven. She finds Tristan—the most gorgeous, beguiling, and haunted man she has ever known… A WARRIOR ON FIRE Newest of the Dragon Kings, Tristan fell from the sky in a snowstorm naked with a sword—but with no memories of his ancient struggles. When he meets the wounded Sammi, something powerful stirs within his heart. When he sees the dragon symbol etched into the bullet from her shoulder, something fierce burns within his soul. With his darkest enemies closing in, Tristan must take wing, take sides—and take no prisoners—to save the woman he's destined to love…in Fire Rising, second novel in the Dark Kings series Tristian and Sammi prove they are just as strong and devoted as Kellan and Denae. Learning more about the dark Kings and the dragon world as well as the other species that humanity has been protected from. With strong, intelligent characters and a plot that is well thought out and flows smoothly to make the story a intriguing read. If you enjoy shifter romances with a sides of suspense and intrigue, then don't miss this new series. You can either read it in 4 short novellas of each book our just read them all in one sitting. Either way you will fall in love with the Dark Kings. My rating of "Fire Rising Book 2" is 4.75 out of 5 stars.

I don't like Tristan. There, I said it. I didn't like his character. I wasn't a huge fan of him in Darkest Flame and though his introduction to the Dragon Kings was shown a bit more in the prequel novellas of Dark Heat, he just didn't catch my eye. But it's his book. *sigh* My biggest issue lies with the insta-love. Now so far every one of the romances in the novellas and first book have had the instant attraction turned to love very quickly which I've come to accept when authors play the "mate" card. You know, where the supernatural being finds their one true love that's perfect for them and just happens to stumble across their path through some unusual turn of events. And I've been mostly okay with that because Grant does a decent enough job of making the romances at least semi-believable. But Tristan and Sammi? That was ALL lust and I wasn't buying it. In terms of the plot, Fire Rising picks up after Darkest Flame and features more of the Warriors introduced in their own series previously. I haven't read the Dark Sword or Dark Warriors books, both series that come before the Dark Kings, but it hasn't been too much of an issue. The world is the same in all three series and they follow chronologically, with the connections becoming more prominent so I'll be going back to check those out. But anyway, the Warriors return and play a big role in Fire Rising as they team up with the Dragon Kings to battle the Dark Fae. I said it with the last book and I'll say it again: Rhi is one of my fave characters so far and I want her to get a book. She's a Light Fae who happens to enjoy meddling with the Kings and, in general, her character is spunky and fun with a darker edge which hasn't been explored yet. There's a lot of action in this one but the romance came down to a couple hot and heavy scenes, and Tristan being super alpha male protective of Sammi. I think Tristan just bored me as a character. He has this really interesting backstory that comes out more in Fire Rising but not enough to satisfy me as a reader. I felt like a lot was still left out yet this was his book and it would've been the perfect time to share it. This definitely wasn't my favorite book so far and I think a lot of it came down to the romance and the fact that I wasn't a fan of the Dragon King featured, but I enjoy Grant's writing and these books are quick reads. I'm definitely excited for Burning Desire up next with Kiril who's been off playing spy the last couple books. Not the greatest book but a solid PNR series.

Summary Sammi Miller, has always lived a tame life, a bar owner in Scotland. She loves doing what she does, and it honors her mother who is gone. But when she learns that her partner, best friend, and ex lover, had stolen money from a mob to support the bar, she ends up seeing him killed, her bar blown apart, shot in the shoulder and on the run from the mob. After a while of being on the run, she knows she needs to find a place of safety, even just for a few days. And there is one place that she has in mind...Dreagan Industries. She has a half sister, Jane, and she knows that she will be safe. But when she arrives, she meets the stunning Tristan. He is gorgeous, sexy and has a past that haunts him. Tristan and Sammi end up together, when Sammi's enemies increase, and the mystery of why become more pronounced. Tristan knows he will do everything in his power to keep his mate safe from their enemies, but will their love be enough to save them... The Hero Tristan, is the newest member of the Dragon Kings. He has a past, but he has no knowledge of his past, or how to interact with his twin. The truths that are revealed in this story, connect to Dark Sword series. Tristan is a strong hero, despite the fact he has no idea who he really is, he knows where he belongs...with the Dragon Kings. He is part of a brotherhood. His reaction to Sammi is intense, he knows that she is something special, but he can't pinpoint why. What I loved most about Tristan, is the way he is about Sammi. He has alpha male tendencies...the need to protect and fight for what is his. And even though his character is still struggling because of issues of his past. He is the type of hero, that doesn't focus on the past so much as the present and future. He is a fighter, gorgeous in his dragon form, and very sensual. I loved seeing the connection to the other series. Although I am not sure how I liked the way he was with his twin. I felt so bad for Ian, and there were moments in this story that it was just heartbreaking. But you also see how Tristan develops as a character and the way he changes is very engaging. The Heroine Sammi Miller, is a business owner, and in the beginning quite innocent of anything that exists other than humans. Sammi, even though she has a half sister, doesn't know what to make of their relationship. She misses her mother, who raised her and started the pub. At the beginning you see how close she was to her. Sammi's world is torn apart and now is running for her life. Sammi is reluctant to go to her sister, because she doesn't want to risk her safety. Sammi is independent and stubborn, and is adamant that this fight is her own. But the moment she enters Dragan Industries, that all changes. Despite being injured and battle worn from running for a whole month with a bullet in her shoulder...this woman has fortitude. I came to admire her character. She did have some flaws, I felt she was being a bit too hardheaded about some things. And I wanted to shake her and call her "idiot", but I could also see where she was coming from. If I was in her place, I might have done the same thing. What I liked about her character was her fighting spirit and how she never gives up. Sammi is put through the ringer, and what courage she has. I loved how she wants to make her own way and not lean on the hero. Although with sexy as he would be the highest temptation. Sammi was a fascinating character and she had many qualities that I look for in a heroine. Plot and Story Line Now first I want to say that if you plan on reading this series, you need to start with the Dark Sword series. I would highly recommend it. There are many connections to that series. You don't have to, but it will make more sense if you do. Now it is a historically based series, but has the same tone of paranormal elements as the Dark Kings have. It is very well done, so I would recommend it. And who can resist Donna Grant? Because I can't. :) Now about the plot of Fire was exciting and thrilling. There was so much going on here that if you knew it all, you might become overwhelmed at the beginning. But Grant has a wonderful way of weaving together a story and the way she blends in scenes, characters, climaxes and attention to detail, you won't be overwhelmed in any way. This has everything you need for a stunning paranormal romance that will you have on edge from beginning to end. There is no end to the action. I loved the tone of the story, which is full of suspense and unique plot twists. The romance itself is wonderful, and we see as the characters does their relationship. The steam isn't super hot, but it is plenty sexy, and I loved seeing how these two come together. There is quite a depth to the story as well, and the villains of the story, oh my...they were written so well. They definitely prove themselves as matches for the Dragon Kings...only the Dragon Kings are experienced, talented, and nothing can stop them. Loved how they band together to fight off the latest threat. The ending...I enjoyed it, as for Sammi and Tristan there is no cliffhanger. But there is a small one, so I hope it continues off in the next book. I can hardly wait... Cover I have really enjoyed the covers of this series. They are what drew me to this author and this series. On Fire Rising, we have a image of the hero (Tristan) and what a gorgeous model this is. Oh yeah I could put this on my wall, frame it and gaze at it all day. The imprint of the red dragon on the center, is simply delightful. I never know how I will feel about tats, some are good and some aren't. But this HOT!!. I really also liked the swirling mist, which goes with certain aspects of the story. They did great with this cover, because it goes with the story hand in hand. Hot Cover...Sexy book...perfect match! Overall View Donna Grant brings to us another great installment to the Dark Kings. Fire Rising is a intensely weaved story that is full of compelling characters, steamy action, fast paced scenes, and a love story that is deliciously sexy.

This is the next installment of Donna Grant’s “Dark Kings” series. I was so on the edge when I got to read this one because Tristan is the biggest mystery next to Con himself! Such a rugged and utterly perfect man can’t make the story easy can he? Heck no! lol that wouldn’t be very fun now would it?? Lol Tristan has been having some memories flashing back from his time before he was a Dragon King and then in the last book we found out a secret that kinda rocked some of Donna’s die hard fans that all were dying to know! Sammi is an amazing heroine if I do say so myself… Such a stubborn and strong willed young woman! This book was a bit of a slow burner to start it off bur the further I read, the more I had to have!! I did spot a few minor spelling errors, however if you’ve read the previous books in this series it isn’t something that you wouldn’t be able to venture past easily. Con really shocked me in this book a couple times as well!! And then learning that Rhi’s Dragon King Lover is alive! I thought by the way she was talking about him, that he was dead! But as always, Donna only gives us as much info as we direly need to continue and didn’t reveal who Rhi’s lover actually IS… So I guess I will read on to see if I learn later! Lol I give this book 4 out of 5 shields!

Another wonderful adventure from Donna Grant. I always enjoy jumping back into the world she has created. Tristan and Sammi's story didn't disappoint. The plot kept moving, rarely dull. The conflict was intersting, and the cast of characters varied. Grant's way of slowly revealing more and more in tiny tidbits from one book to another of character's story (like Rhi and Con) keeps you turning the pages.

Donna Grant is a very good story teller. She makes you understand the people that she is writing about as though they were real people. I have enjoyed reading a number of her books and look forward to more in the future.

I got hooked on this series when I stumbled upon Dark Craving. I then bought the rest of the books that were available. Now I just want to keep reading them. This was released in 4 parts, but I like being able to read it all at once, so I waited to get the full book. I am pretty sure that I read it with in a day or two. I could not put it down.

HOLY MACHO DRAGON KING HOTNESS! FIRE RISING is the second book in Donna Grant's impassioned Dark Kings series about Scottish dragon shifters. I love my Highlanders AND my dragons and this read had both laced with sexy Scottish brogue! The Dark Kings are a spin-off from her Dark Warriors series which in turn are a spin-off from her Dark Sword series. All are set in the Highlands of Scotland. I inhaled the first book in this series, DARKEST FLAME. There are interconnected characters and continuing threads in the series. FIRE RISING can be read as a standalone as the author seamlessly fills in needed background information. However, I would expect that your enjoyment would be exponentially increased the more previous books you have read.  My full review has been published at Reading Between the Wines Book Club.
