This is a wonderful series. This book digs deeper into the life of one of the characters from the first in the series. Riveting, informative, and just plain good. The novel includes: romance, sadness, death, betrayal, faith, courage, and more. It also shows great love for animals. It has lots of historical information about Indian culture, relationships with other cultures, and life during the western pioneer days. Excellent. Highly recommended. Be sure to read the first in the series to get a clearer picture of the main character. This book deserves an A+++++++

¿Not a Quick Read¿ 3 stars
I love books about strong women. In that sense, Kirkpatrick has created a masterpiece; however, this story is not a quick read. Kirkpatrick does not draw in the casual reader. This is a book that you have to make yourself read at first. Halfway through, I finally cared enough about the characters to see reading this book as more than just a chore.
If you do not mind wading through the history and wordiness, this is a great story of a strong woman who has no one to rely on but herself.
