This is fantastic science fiction noir. Adams follows the noir structure strictly, with great results. The story is gritty, mysterious, and engaging. He didn’t add in character arcs like most noirs, but the plot was epic in scope, which is where the science fiction comes in. He blended the genres like a master. The story follows Rad Bradley and Jennifer Jones as they track down the robot king, each for very different reasons. When they find him they realize that nuclear destruction is imminent, unless they do something. Fast. His writing really shone in world-building department. Each of his settings was phenomenal, he made them come alive and I love the way he had the characters interact with the setting. It was also fun to read about all kinds of robots: big robots, small robots, cyborgs, nuclear robots, and even zombie robots. His characters fell a little flat, but his creative plot and breathtaking settings more than made up for it. 5-Stars to The Age Atomic. The Breakdown: Anyone who loves robots, alternate dimensions, ghosts, imminent nuclear destruction, epic tales, noir, darn good writing, or science fiction should read this book.
