In a matter of seconds my entire world changed, and it was in that moment that I stopped living and simply began to exist.

In my grief, I sent a letter to the first boy I ever loved. I didn’t expect him to write back.

Sergeant Devin Ulysses Clay did what I couldn’t: he put the shattered pieces of my heart back together. But now that I’m whole, I have a decision to make. Do I return to my life as I knew it and the fiancé I left behind, or do I walk away from it all for the only man to ever break my heart?

A letter from Katie Devora—a letter that I almost didn’t open. Her words put a fire back inside of me that I didn’t know I’d lost.

The Army saved me from a callous mother and a life on the wrong side of the tracks that was quickly spiraling out of control. So unlike most of the men in my platoon, going home wasn’t something I longed for.

I was content overseas, spending my days defending this country that gave me my life back. Fighting became my new normal … until her.

About the Author

KL Grayson is a USA Today bestselling author. She is entertained daily by her extraordinary husband, who will forever inspire every good quality she writes in a man. Her entire life rests in the palms of six dirty little hands, and when the day is over and those pint-sized cherubs have been washed and tucked into bed, you can find her typing away furiously on her computer. She has a love for alpha-males, brownies, reading, tattoos, sunglasses, and happy endings…and not particularly in that order.

BT Urruela is a USA Today bestselling author, who was recently on the FOX hit reality series COUPLED. He was an infantryman in the US Army for six and a half years. At the end of a year long tour in Baghdad, Iraq, his vehicle was hit by two roadside bombs, which took his right leg below the knee and the life of his commander. He was awarded a Purple Heart for his wounds, and also received a Combat Infantryman's Badge. He works as a Director and Brand Ambassador for VETSports, a veteran community sports nonprofit he co-founded in 2012.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS OF ALL TIME!! I just finished this book and it was beyond amazing. It was extremely well written. I am still very overcome with emotion from this heart wrenching story. This story had everything...first loves, family, true loves, heartbreak, tragedy, loss, war, friendships, hatred, forgiveness, second chances, living, believing in yourself, strength, prayer and believing in a high power. While it was a very emotional story to read (Kleenex needed!), it did have some humor & sexy moments as well. I fell in love with these characters and I felt like I was right there with them, I was pulled into this story from the very beginning. Devin & Katie's story is one that will be with me always. I really enjoyed the secondary characters too, especially Maggie and Navas. I hope to see a story for Navas in the future. KL Grayson & BT Urruela are a great writing team and I hope to read more from them both, whether together or separately. **Also don't miss A Lover's Lament Soundtrack on Spotify, it is awesome! I listened to it prior to reading the book and as I read the book I could hear those songs throughout the book in the background. Perfectly chosen songs! Awesome teamwork KL Grayson & BT Urruela!

This beautifully executed story had me feeling the intent behind every printed word from the get go, barely a paragraph into it and these well crafted characters drew me into their world, and had me hanging desperately onto every word. Their touching story captured my heart, had me feeling the pain of their loss, and rejoicing in their moments of joy. It was a moving reunion story filled with moments of hope, excruciating loss, and brimming with the promise of true love. Being a story told from dual points of view I had my reservations about it, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was blended together seamlessly, I have to say it was downright perfect! Definitely one of the best reads that I have had the pleasure of reading in a long while, loved every minute of it, and I highly recommend you give it a try, you will not be disappointed! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.

What a beautiful story about a second chance romance that deals with loss, pain and forever love. This book had my emotions all over the place. If you're looking for a story to tug on the heartstrings, you can't go wrong with this one. Just have some tissues ready! ARC provided by NetGalley.

This is one of the best books I've read in a while. It captures your attention immediately and doesn't let go. I was kept on my toes throughout the entire book and found myself rooting for the love story of the century. Love, like the one showed in this story, seems real and attainable and reminds me much of The Notebook. Loved every detail and aspect of this book!

Tissues not included, but definitely needed.

Absolutely loved this book! Yes, a lot of drama, but not the overly angsty type. Neither character had intense insecurities which drove them to make impulsive, stupid decisions. They were honest with one another without keeping the truth hidden which could have lead to unnecessay drama. Many books seem to believe the more angst, the greater the story. I don't agree; those types of stories just make me, well angsty, but also angry. Not this story though! I absolutely love it and the characters are so easy to fall in love with! Worth the money for sure!!

I could not wait to finally read Katie & Devin's story. I absolutely loved the premise of young love lost and found again. The way the authors put it together was terrific. I loved the pen pal concept. Both characters were so very honest in their letters. I was hooked from the start and had a hard time putting the book down. This is my first read from K.L. Grayson & BT Urruela. I look forward to reading more!

A Lover’s Lament by KL Grayson & BT Urruela is a second chance romance wrapped in the exploration of different types of grief. It is told from dual points of view on their friendship, their love, their being apart and their grief that brings them back together. Katie and Devin’s story is an emotional read that has gasp moments and tears for the reader. It is an amazing read that gives you a look inside of a military deployment and the gritty life these brothers-in-arm live. Thanks to BT Urruela’s willingness to start his writing career with this very personal look from his military background. I look forward to KL Grayson & BT Urruela’s next story in this series. Thanks KL Grayson & BT Urruela & Good Writing

A lover's lament is a must read , but l do warn you to have plenty of kleenex on hand because you will need them. This book is full of laughter, love, awkwardness, happiness, anger and gut wrenching heartache. You get a glimpse into a long distance relationship with a solider is like, and how hard it is on both. I was hooked from the very first line of this book. I could feel the emotions that both Katie and Devin are feeling. I feel in Love with Devin and wanted to be Katie. Love the way it was written from two people's point of view by KL Grayson and first time author BT Urruela. I highly recommend this book.

“Love doesn’t have an expiration date, Katie. There is no cookie cutter for it, and there sure as hell aren’t any instructions. It just is. Who says you can’t fall in love with someone who has already broken your heart? Who says you can’t move on and then fall in love all over again from thousands of miles away via letters and emails? That’s the great thing about love…it finds you. And when it’s true love, it doesn’t just go away, and you just know. You don’t have to wonder or guess, because it just….is” Stunning. Amazing. Beautifully Written. Rendered Speechless. In Awe. These are the first words that come to mind when I think of my thoughts and feelings towards this book. When I first found out about this book, I was intrigued. It’s no secret that I am a big fan of KL Grayson and when I heard that she was teaming up with BT Urruela to write a story, I knew I had to read it. And let me tell you, I was not disappointed. I’ve only had a hand full of books that have just taken my breath away and that have left me speechless. This is one of them. As I’m sitting here trying to write this review, I am trying to think of how to put my thoughts and feelings into words. This is one of those books that I just feel words can not describe it. It’s one of those books that you just have to read and experience for yourself. A Lover’s Lament is the first collaboration for KL Grayson and BT Urruela and boy has it knocked my socks off. These two make such a great writing team. You can tell that they really put their hearts and souls into the words that they wrote. The characters are real, raw and honest. From the first moment I met Devin and Katie, I was hooked. Their story captured my heart and burned its way into my soul. I couldn’t get enough of the two of them. Their chemistry and connection, strong enough to withstand all the years they were separated. What they shared was undeniable. I just had to keep reading. I had to see how things would go; how they would play out. My emotions were all over the place. KL Grayson and BT Urruela made me feel so many things. And I know this is one story that I will never forget. A Lover’s Lament is well written, captivating, and is told from dual points of view. It is so much more than just a love story. This is a story about second chances, regret, loss, finding ones self again, forgiveness, hope, and fate. Katie and Devin’s story is everything. I loved everything about their story from start to finish and did not want it to end. I am blown away by the beauty and honesty of this story. I am just in awe of KL Grayson and BT Urruela and I hope, I hope that these two will write together again in the future. *I was provided an ARC copy of this book via InkSlinger PR, in exchange for an honest review*

This book has left me speechless. I am having a hard time writing this review because of how the book affected me left me with a book hangover. BT Urruela and KL Grayson did an amazing job showing every emotion a couple would/could go through in long distance relationship. This was also done with the long distance relationship involving being over seas fighting a war. The dual POV was done really well and really made you feel as if you were there with Katie and Devin. At first you start off just reading about Katie and all the hard times she has to go through. We she a young women struggling to gain back the strong, independent, loving, and caring person she was. When she is asked/told to write a letter to a solider through pen pal service the whole level of the book changes and we this Katie start to come back. Katie still has her struggles but we see a change because after ten long years Devin is back in her life even if just through letters. When Devin's POV is introduced we see his struggle through the war. We also see a strong, alpha male, that really has nothing to live for. By seeing his POV it really makes you think of all the things that these men and women risk to keep us safe (other than what we hear on the news). Through out the book we see how Devin never gave up on true love (even though he ran from true love). Will Devin and Katie get their happily ever after or will the war take it all away from them? A Lover's Lament took me through every emotion. Joy and heartache are two of the main that I had while reading about Devin and Katie. While reading I also laughed and cried because of how well BT and KL wrote this story. There were even a few times when I yelled at the book because I could not believe what I was reading. I absolutely loved this book and hated it to end. So, if you want a truly amazing story about love and war then A Lover's Lament is the book for you.

I'm not one to ever write reviews. In fact, this is the very first one I've written.words cannot express how wonderful this book is. I've already read previous books by KL Grayson, but this is BT Urruela's first novel. Not many books.make me actually cry, but this one did. It will make you feel the saddness, joy, loss and most importantly LOVE between Katie and Devin. Second chance romances are always my favorite but this A Lover's Lament is by far the best one I've read. Its a heart wretching beautful story that I know will stay I. My heart for a long time.

My Rating: 5 Coffee Cups!! This book was, simply put, absolutely incredible. The emotions evoked from this story - not quite so simple. KL Grayson and BT Urruela put my heart through the wringer. It's been a long time since I've read a book that actually, physically, had me holding my breath during certain parts because I was that scared about what was going to happen next. Because I was that invested in the characters and their happiness and their well-being. And not just the main characters either. ALL OF THEM. I was brought into a world so real and a love so deep and poignant that I felt it. Every time Katie heard from Devin I felt her relief. When Devin had an exceptionally hard experience I felt his anguish. Katie and Devin's relationship was complicated. Friends from childhood, I guess they can be easily described as childhood sweethearts. But it didn't end well. Extenuating circumstances caused the transition from friends to lovers to be cut extremely short. The relationship ended, but their love never did. Neither of them really truly moved on from it. 10 years later and simply seeing his name on a piece of paper causes Katie's heart and mind to tremble with an intense combination of feelings. That fate had put them in each other's path after all this time- right at a time when she NEEDED him to be there had her a confused jumble of emotions. She makes the decision to open a door to him, open herself to him and to the risk of getting hurt after being left once already. Devin was taking everything day by day. First in Afghanistan, then in Iraq he has seen his fair share of loss and darkness. But he has his Brothers here. Whereas at home it's pretty empty. That emptiness and the envy of having everyone around him receiving letters and care packages from home caused him to very randomly sign up for a Military pen-pal program. To which he has actually pretty much disregarded everything he received from it. Until the return name of one of the letters catches his eye. Katie's name and handwriting in a letter that fills him so full of hope. Hope for a future he really wasn't thinking about. Re-opening and fully mending old, deep scars- scars created by both each other and by the actions of other around them- is difficult and they both have to be willing to completely open themselves up to possibility of more pain but with the results having the potential to be something so beautiful and soul-happy the past will pale in comparison. The fact that this is BT Urruela's debut novel will have you shaking your head going "nuh-huh, don't believe it. Not fooling me." He puts so much passion and depth to the characters and the story. And the realism and emotion in every word of Devin's life in the field and with his brothers makes you feel it that much more. You see and visualize everything being described so clearly and it hits you straight in your heart. This story will leave you a breathless, emotional wreck when you finish the last sentence of the last page. You will cry, you will laugh (Katie's BFF Maggie is a much needed comic release) but most of all you will connect. This book has easily gone to the top of my list for the year.

I read a lot of military romance novels, and I can easily say this book moved to the top of my favorites list. I already know I will be re-reading this story multiple times. And I am already anxiously anticipating the next one in the series. Admittedly, I wasn't sure I would enjoy this book at all because I usually don't go for stories written by multiple authors. It's very frustrating for me to go back and forth between 2 different writing styles/points of view. Let me tell you....that was not the case with this story. I enjoyed the story from Katie and Devin's point of view mostly because having known that BT Urruela actually served in the Army, I felt it was a more "raw" and realistic telling of what it's really like to be deployed. And the story from Katie's point of view was so EMOTIONALLY written, I felt like *I* was the one waiting at home for Devin to return (could also have something to do with the fact that my name is also Katie ;) ) It was just overall a moving story of love lost and found, and their fight to make a relationship work in a less than ideal situation. I was happy, sad, angry, amused....my emotions were all over the place. In my humble opinion, that speaks volume about a book. Having found out about about this book only because I follow BT on FB/Twitter (is it possible to fall just a little bit in love with someone you've never met? Because I promise I'm not crazy but this man....phew...he is just the whole package) I have to confess that was really the underlying motivation I had to read it. Because he was writing it. I had read his short story on his website about his injury and thought...wow he has a way with words. To find out he was writing a book was music to my ears! Not to mention my favorite kind of story. I had been counting down the days for it's release, and it did not disappoint.

This book is one of the best I've read all year. A Lover's Lament is heartfelt, engaging, unique and one of the sweetest love stories I've ever read. This is a story about loss, love, second chances and taking risk. KL Grayson and BT Urruela really pulled me into this story through their writing. I could really connect with Katie and Devin. Their love for each other was palpable and I really enjoyed reading their story. This book wasn't at all what I expected but I loved it. I especially loved the way that it ended. I definitely plan to read this one again!
