Here, collected in one handsome volume, are all the adventures of Madeline, a fearless little girl full of mischief and vitality who is one of the world's most popular and beloved fictional characters. Madeline, which was first published in 1939, and its five sequels have charmed generations of readers, and become true classics. In each of these books, Bemelmans's humorous verse, his immortal characters—Miss Clavel, Pepito, the magician, the others—and his wonderful, whimsical drawings of Paris combine to create a memorable reading experience for people of all ages. Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Anna Quindlen has written an introduction to the collection, which also includes "The Isle of God," an essay by Bemelmans on how he invented Madeline, and never-before-published working sketches of Madeline, as well as photos of the Bemelmans family. This edition of Bemelmans's classic is a distinguished new addition to Barnes & Noble's Collectible Editions classics. Each volume features an elegant binding, distinctive gilt edging, decorative endpapers, and a colorful ribbon bookmark. Collectible and durable, these volumes should be the cornerstones of every home library.

My daughters (7 and 4 years old) and I love this book. It is so well written , short, witty and funny for small children. The drawings seem simple but they are artistic , they convey emotions and movements so masterfully , vignettes recreate different scenes of one of the most beloved cities , a true delight for Paris lovers. This leather edition is beautiful, love having it as it gathers all of Madeline’s stories . I’ve bought several more to gift to my young nieces . It’s a timeless book which is a delight to read over and over to little ones.
