Overview

From the #1 New York Times- and USA Today-bestselling author of the Rosemary Beach and The Vincent Boys series, Abbi Glines delivers another smoldering, compulsively readable YA romance with As She Fades.

On the night of her high school graduation, Vale McKinley and her boyfriend Crawford are in a terrible car accident that leaves Crawford in a coma. They were supposed to spend the summer planning for college, for a bright future full of possibility. Together. Instead, Vale spends long days in the hospital, hoping Crawford will awaken.

Slate Allen, a college friend of Vale’s brother, has been visiting his dying uncle at the same hospital. When he and Vale meet, she can’t deny the flutter of an illicit attraction. She tries to ignore her feelings, but she's not immune to Slate's charm. Slowly, they form a cautious friendship.

Then, Crawford wakes up . . . with no memory of Vale or their relationship. Heartbroken, Vale opts to leave for college and move on with her life. Except now, she’s in Slate’s territory, and their story is about to take a very strange turn.

Glines’ millions of fans will adore As She Fades, a novel as romantic as it is full of twists and unexpected turns.

“Romance fans will love the relationship between the protagonists and be sucked into the story line of the circumstances that bring them together.” —School Library Journal

I have read many books by Abbi Glines and I have liked some better than others. This book had been appealing to me. As I started reading it it became repetitious. The story was a bit slow moving. I did like the characters. And the premise of the story, and it being told in alternate character chapters. I just felt there was such a big build up to a lack luster ending. If you like Abbi Glines give it a read.

As She Fades by Abbi Glines was only about 50% what the blurb says it is. Yes, there was an accident, and the first half or so follows the blurb, but then it completely changes. It was like a bait and switch book, but once I got used to the new direction, I was actually pretty happy with it...for the most part. This story felt different from other Abbi Glines' books I've read. She's a favorite of mine. Her characters are always believable and real. And though this one was odd and almost felt like a different author wrote the whole first half, I still couldn't put it down The ARC of As She Fades by Abbi Glines was kindly provided to me by the publisher for review. The opinions are my own.

I loved the book. But the one thing I didn’t like was the Part 2 thing. It was kind of confusing. I liked its story but I wish Abbi Glines would have finished Part 1 before she stopped it in the middle and started a whole different side.

I wasn’t expecting to be so mad bed by a book I started because it sounded like a simple romance novel...very shocking. Extremely glad I got to read this.

I loved Part One of this book... and then you come to Part Two and you’re completely thrown off and it’s like you’re starting all over again but with a completely different story line. It makes absolutely no sense why Part One was even written. I had to stop reading a few times to google the book and it’s plot because Part Two completely throws you off and leaves you thoroughly confused and a huge portion of the book’s plot, doesn’t even happen. This was poorly written. I’ve read a ton of Abbi Glines books and liked them all for the most part. I was really excited about this book and it’s plot. But I’m severely disappointed in this book. Honestly, I wouldn’t waste your money.

** spoiler alert ** Holy wow double rainbows unicorns in the ☁️ sky! This booook I was so intensely caught up in the story I didn’t realize it was the end! Y’all! That is when you know the book is amaze balls!!!!! Swooooon I am still reeling! It was perfect, pure and heart wrenching! I love how developed and mature the characters were! I love that they don’t play games. They are honest and it is soooo refreshing! I did not see that twist coming and I am glad she saw Crawford's true colors. ONE DAY IS BAD ENOUGH but he waited a whole 3 days to see her. That is why I like when a person is comfortable in their own skin and loves themselves and thennnnn they find a person who compliments them. I wouldn't say complete because that doesn't do it justice either. Someone who pushes you and brings out the best. That is who she found in Slate. some of my FAV quotes “Life tosses you things you’re not expecting. This won’t be the first big hurdle in your life. What you have to learn is that you’re strong enough to live anyway. “If I ever let a woman buy my coffee, my mother would fly here on her broom and beat me over the head with it.” The image made me laugh. “We won’t tell her.” Seriously made me LOL What if he was that guy and didn’t know it? What if we had both been lost until now? The first guy other than Crawford who I’d developed feelings for saw me as a sister. Until tonight and this moment, I hadn’t been able to admit I had feelings for Slate. I hadn’t been ready for all this to hit me at once. Life had dealt me some difficult cards, but I was going to find my own path now. I didn’t need a guy to complete me. I never did. I just never had the opportunity to find that out. Until now. That boy’s got the biggest one I’ve ever seen. When he loves, he loves big. He doesn’t let you down and he stands by you no matter what. I know it because he loves me. Don’t let his past mistakes and possibly his future mistakes let you miss out on being loved by a heart that damn big.” Sometimes life throws changes our way that make us stronger and show us we don’t always know what is best. I knew just listening to him that Vale McKinley was special. The kind of special that changed a person. That made a mark in life. I knew he had a reputation, but he was also a human. Someone’s nephew. He had a soul. “I will leave that Jeep right there and walk the entire way back with you if you don’t. I’m not letting you out of my sight.” “Actually, there’s a side of Slate no one sees because he doesn’t show them. Or they don’t look closely. You went out with him because of his reputation. Maybe you should have tried to see beyond what you thought you knew about him.” “Crawford will regret this one day,” Slate said as he turned his body toward me. “He had you. He’d lived a perfect life with you and he didn’t even know what he had because he hadn’t tried anything else. Me . . . well, I’ve tried it all. I’m not wondering what’s on the other side. I’ve been there, and it is lonely. He’ll realize it one day, and it’ll be too late.” my pulse raced with Slate. He made the world brighter and full of the unknown

“Life tosses you things you’re not expecting. This won’t be the first big hurdle in your life. What you have to learn is that you’re strong enough to live anyway.” “Life had dealt me some difficult cards, but I was going to find my own path now.” As She Fades is a consuming and completely unexpected love story. Imagine having everything you want at your fingertips. All your hopes and dreams are about to come true, until one fateful moment. One moment that will forever change your life as you know it. What you know and what you think you wanted are suddenly different. How do you accept this new truth? How can you move on??? As She Fades sucked me in from the very first page. I was intrigued by Vale’s story and was in awe of her devotion to Crawford. She was selfless and stood by his side waiting for him to wake up despite how dire things were looking. However, this devotion came at a cost. Vale forgot how to live and was stuck. The last thing she ever planned on was meeting Slate. Slate is her total opposite in every way. And as much as she should stay away, she can’t help but feel the pull towards him. As their friendship progresses, Vale starts to see the things that she is missing out on and remembers what it’s like to live. And just when you have an idea of where things will go for Vale and Slate, the rug will be pulled out from them, giving way to one of the craziest twists I have ever read… As She Fades is fresh and has a very unique story-line with a Wizard of Oz quality to it. Vale’s story is consuming and will pull at your heart. It will have you wondering what is right and what is wrong? What is real? What you would do if you were in her place? Her story is one of moving on and self discovery. It is a story of finding love in a most unexpected place. I couldn’t get enough of Vale and Slate together. Their friendship was so real and honest. They knew the score from the very beginning and seeing them both change was pretty special. Their pull to each other was undeniable and had me aching for more. My only complaint was the ending. I was left wanting more. I was longing for an epilogue or maybe just one more chapter to Slate and Vale’s story. I mean, after all the ups and downs, after all they went through…I just feel like there needed to be more. Overall, I thought As She Fades is a very good story. I fell in love at page one. I loved the characters and the story. I was utterly consumed and could not put this book down. It was a great read to spend the day getting lost in.
