Overview

A shocking new era begins for the Initiative! Where Camp Hammond once trained future Avengers, Camp H.A.M.M.E.R. now trains tomorrow's Dark Avengers! Under orders from Norman Osborn, your new Principals are Taskmaster and the criminal kingpin, the Hood. They're registering villains as heroes and spreading Norman's empire across the nation with such specialized classes as "How to Fake Being Champions While Fleecing the Citizens You're Supposed to Protect!" But the heroes who once made up the Initiative aren't about to let this happen. Hunted by the law, hidden from sight, a resistance movement has formed...and they're out to stop a Dark Reign from falling over the Fifty State Initiative, by any means necessary! Collects Avengers: The Initiative #26-31.

About the Author

In the words of Christos Gage...
I was born in New York, then grew up in Athens, Greece and North Grafton, Massachusetts. Started reading at age 3, discovered comics soon after. First comic collected and saved: Marvel's Godzilla. Never quit comics for girls the way some flip-floppers do, though I did keep it in the closet at times, for which I am deeply ashamed.

I thought that this trade was an interesting story, although it's not a necessary one if you're keeping up with the Dark Reign event (although, when has Avengers: The Initiative ever been a necessary read for any event? This is kind of a fun, throw-away series that has little to no impact on the big Marvel titles.). For those of us who have been following this title, however, I think it's a good trade. The Initiative withers under Osborn's care, and former graduates from the Initiative's better days (Cloud 9, Hardball, Butterball, etc) make appearances and some tough choices. And I really can't get enough of Taskmaster, especially since he's been so underutilized since Cable & Deadpool ended.
