Overview

Featuring a beachful of bare-bellied hippos—including one tiny baby who can only say “Bee Bo”—the Belly Button Book is a quirky addition to the phenomenally successful Boynton on Board series. Every page captivates with Sandra Boynton’s inimitable illustrations and joyful rhyming text:

Soon after dark, upon the beach, we sing a hippo song, and if you’re feeling in the mood, we hope you’ll sing along: “Belly Belly Button, you’re oh so fine. Ooo, Belly Button, I’m so happy you’re mine.”

Shiny and sturdy, and featuring a great (navel-shaped, naturally) die-cut cover, the Belly Button Book provides enduring, giggly, read-aloud fun.

Oversized lap edition also available—perfect for more reading aloud!

About the Author

Sandra Boynton is a beloved American cartoonist, children’s author, songwriter, and highly sporadic short film director. Boynton has written and illustrated sixty children’s books and seven general audience books, including five New York Times bestsellers. More than 70 million of her books have been sold—“mostly to friends and family,” she says. Boynton has also written and produced six albums of unconventional children’s music; three of her albums have been certified Gold (over 500,000 copies sold), and Philadelphia Chickens, nominated for a Grammy, has gone Platinum (over one million copies sold). Boynton has also written and directed eleven short musical films and two animated shorts, including “Tyrannosaurus Funk,” sung by Samuel L. Jackson, which won the 2018 Grand Prize for Best Children’s Animation Short from the Rhode Island International Film Festival. In 2008, Boynton received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Cartoonists Society. Boynton has four perfect children and an equally perfect granddaughter. Her Connecticut studio is in a converted barn that has perhaps the only hippopotamus weathervane in America.

We love reading this book again and again! We find ourselves reciting it during bath time, chnaging time, etc...anytime the belly button is exposed!

I work at a daycare center with 1 and 2 yr olds and they all love this book. Some books I can get tired of reading to the children over and over but this is one book that both the children and I enjoy reading. It is definitly a must read for children!

Just a cute, silly, kinda pointless book about hippos and their love of their belly buttons. My sister and I have taken to quoting this book at random intervals throughout the day. It grows on you. It's not as catchy as most of Boynton's work, but it definitely has its own charm.

This one sort of grows on you. At first I gave it 3 stars, but have switched my opinion to 4. My two-year-old now refers to his belly button as a bee-bo!

Actually more of a favorite of my preteen than of my toddler. A very cute addition to the Boynton collection for lovers of all things hippo-related (or ducky-related).

this is one of my almost 2 year old granddaughter's long time favorites! She calls her own belly button a bee-bo! Makes a great gift for a one year old!

A silly story about belly buttons that is super fun to read. Hippos love their belly b's, so they wear teeny bathing suits and buy balloons (because they like to think that balloons have belly buttons too) and hang out at Belly Button Beach. As with all other Boynton books, the story has a lyrical quality that is perfect for being read out loud, or even sung. The illustrations are cute and slightly absurd, and you have to love that adorable baby hippo. She calls her belly button "Beebo!" My family has a tendency to read Boynton books to the point of memorization; in fact, I quoted several lines in this review as naturally as if I were speaking them myself. We love Boynton books.

More Boynton fun, and there's a related song to learn, hurrah!

A riveting read by my son's favorite author going behind the scenes of the Hippo world and the importance of the "Be-Bo". A great add to our Boynton Collection!

This book is SO CUTE and very FUN to read out loud! The illustrations are wonderful and include a baby hippo that catches babies attention. It is still a great bedtime story because it ends on a soft note by telling your "bee boo" good-bye. Which by niece(2nd niece to read this too)does every time.

The "Belly Button Book" is a fun rhyme about Hippos and that cute little button on their middle. It captivates the attention of babies and is a wonderful book for the budding reader.

My 11 month old LOVES this story, as he does all of our Boynton books. He smiles with delight when we read the book and tickle his "BeBo!" (belly button). I have yet to find a book by Sandra Boynton that wasn't an absolute delight. I'm sure we'll treasure this one for quite a while.

The rhythm and rhyme of the words engage babies at a very early age teaching them the joys of reading. The BEE BOO has become part of our culture with little ones therefore all children need to read it. All Sandra Boynton books are wonderful. Your child will wear it out.

I like to give Sandra Boynton board books as gifts at baby showers-new moms have told me that this one is a favorite!

This adorable book by Sandra Boynton captures the charm of the very young and captivates the youngest"reader". It chronicles the many belly buttons that are seen by adorable creatures at the beach and in other places. This book is a perfect early read aloud for infants and toddlers. It will be happily read again and again! Enjoy it. It is a must have for all tiny starters, and the board book format makes it last through all the little readers in the family.

I got this book because my husband thinks that belly buttons are really fun, and he would enjoy reading this book to our son. I was wondering what this book was about when I say the title, but it was very imaginative and inventive. I love it.

This is one of our daughters (and my husbands) favorites! It is a funny, engaging book and I would recommend any of her books as a gift that keeps on giving! She has played and read these books over and over since 9 months of age! Now at 19 months she is practically reading the books completely by herself she loves them so much.
