A moving tale of the abuse of women in modern-day Africa. This is not your typical male-bashing eruption of a feminist. Ama Darko gives a moving account of a simple woman who found herself trapped in a loveless marriage arranged by her parents. With good intentions, she follows her husband to Europe only to be blackmailed by this hateful nitwit into prostitution in order to support his other marriages! Unlike some other African writers who employ literary fluff (to wins awards by European/American reviwewers), Ama Darko's style of writing is plain, making her book a joy to read. Conscious of her African audience, Ama addresses a serious social problem in a very engaging manner. Once I started reading the book, I couldn't put it down until I finished reading the last page..
