Black and Tans: The British Special Police in Ireland based on 0 ratings. 2 reviews.
' The Black and Tans'. I found the book very informative in my continuing efforts to understand what happened. Violence begets violence. Both the Irish Republicans and the British fed off each others lawlessness and it justifys neither actions. The British government effort was uncoordinated and undisciplined. The IRA Volunteers by their actions brought a lot of grief upon the heads of their own people. I recommend this book as not only important but to take down from the book shelf to read again.
I found that the book is written for an English / Irish audience. Not being that familiar with Irish history I was lost in the beginning with some of the things he was talking about. I do believe that the author did try to be equal in his treatment of both the Black and Tan and the IRA. Overall he did not talk as much about the Black and Tan as I had expected
