Overview

Thankful, Kelly Clarkson's slightly underwhelming 2003 debut, could've marked the end of the first-season American Idol champ's 15 minutes of fame. But with her angst-filled, rock-edged sophomore disc, Breakaway, a sexier, more confident Clarkson proves she has staying power. This girl-next-door captured the A.I. crown by belting goose bump–inducing renditions of R&B classics ("Natural Woman") and adult contemporary–leaning power ballads (the single "A Moment Like This"), yet Thankful failed to capitalize on Clarkson's hazel-eyed soul, instead settling for Pink-reminiscent pop. But with the popularity of rock-lite chicks Ashlee Simpson and Avril Lavigne, it's a smart move for the raspy-piped Clarkson to wail -- more convincingly -- on guitar-fueled girl power anthems and disaffected love songs. The inspiring title track (originally featured on the Princess Diaries 2 soundtrack) and the new-wavy kiss-off "Since U Been Gone" will certainly strike a chord with tween and teen girls everywhere. With the star-making Breakaway, Clarkson is still America's favorite pop idol.

I still love this whole album! I still sing Hear Me or You Found Me on Sundays. I still sing Gone when I am angry at life or my ex boyfriend. You can't go wrong and Kelly clearly worked her butt off to breakaway from the pack and get into the Princess Diaries movies with Anne Hathaway. Totally worth it, worth every cent.=) 10 Stars, but I gave it 5 on here because that is all I could do!:D Go Kelly, we love you!:D

Kelly Clarkson now only has come a long way since American Idol, but also since her debut album 'Thankful' hit stores. Now her sophomore album 'Breakaway' has been a tremedous hit to many. It has a little more rock sound to it then 'Thankful'. With her amazing voice that God has granted her with and her live performances take the breath away from many fans they just fall in love with this Texas native. Kelly's the real thing. 'Breakaway' describes Kelly more as a person and really brings out her true side. So if you have not heard this album yet, check it out, go buy it, you won't regret it!

Where do I start? She was the first artist I saw on Mtv! Because of You, that song makes me cry every time I heard it. I just love it. Now I im going to learn how to play the guitar, and maybe get singing lessons. I've come a long way, no matter what you say. She was the one who introduced me to music. Kelly is a very touching artist, every album is unique. I recommend this album to everyone.

"Breakaway" is a great second album from the original American Idol, Kelly Clarkson. This album is very different from her debut effort, "Thankful" which was more pop/r&b whereas this album is more pop/rock. Clarkson is a little more older and edgier this time around, and it is very apparent on the songs "Because of You" and "Behind These Hazel Eyes," which happen to be my 2 favorites songs. Not only has Kelly grown as a musician but also as a songwriter, she co-wrote 5 of the 12 songs on the album. And as an added bonus, Kelly included the live version of "Beautiful Disaster" (from "Thankful") which she performed during her 2004 Independent Tour with Clay Aiken. It's a beautiful ballad and her voice shines. "Breakaway" is a must for any Kelly or American Idol fan!!!

Far superior to her first album. Not a "dud" track on the entire album.

While the title may get the brain wondering...that is exactly what this CD has done! She has exposed her very soul into the words of her songs. She did beautifully writing the lyrics, and had great people helping her express herself more openly. This CD is perhaps one of the best as of late...considering there is not one song that I would take off the record. However, I would add one that was a contender for a spot on the record, and that is "Don't" it is gorgeous. I was glad to see "Beautiful Disaster" made the cut because that was one of my favourite songs on the first album besides "Anytime." Her 2 singles that have been released are blowing up air time and just bringing her back into the spot light! Every track on this album has potential to be her next single, but songs like "Behind These Hazel Eyes," "Addicted," "Because of You," "Hear Me," most definately steal the show. Even her slow songs can't be considered ballads because they are about how this person has mucked up her life, and she is recovering...they're more powerful than just any ballad...they are perhaps super ballads if there is such a thing. I most definately reccommend this CD to anyone that is willing to give music a try, and to those who think Kelly is hard core pop...pick this album up to prove yourself wrong.

Kelly is going to rock on her sophomore release. I've heard a lot of clips from this album and they're all extremely well. There's nothing wrong with this. If you're looking for a good punkrock CD, this is the one to own!! FIVE STARS!!

Kelly Clarkon's CD, Breakaway, is my absolute favorite CD. Breakaway is entirely different from Kelly's debut, Thankful. While Thankful was light, Breakaway has more of an edge to it. 1) Breakaway - 10/10 - Catchy tune & great lyrics. 2) Since U Been Gone -10/10 - My 2nd favorite song on the disk. Great rock chorus! 3) Behind These Hazel Eyes - 10/10 - Catchy chorus that'll be stuck in your head for days! 4) Because of You - 20/10 - My FAVORITE song! It's an amazing ballod with great lyrics written about her dad. 5) Gone - 9/10 - Great chorus. OK verses. 6) Addicted - 7/10 - This song gets annoying. 7) Where is Your Heart - 7/10 - Another ballod. It's forgettable, though. 8) Walk Away - 9/10 - This is Kelly's newest single. It's not as good as her others, but still is a good song. 9) You Found Me - 9/10 - This is one of the most "pop" songs on Breakaway, and it has a really catchy chorus. 10) I Hate Myself For Losing You - 5/10 - This is the only song on this disk that I really can't stand. 11) Hear Me - 10/10 - Great song. I'm surprised they haven't made it into a single yet. 12) Beautiful Disaster (Live) - 9/10 - I loved the song Beautiful Disaster, but I liked the live version even more. Overall, Breakaway is an amazing CD. It has five hit singles, Breakaway, Since U Been Gone, Behind These Hazel Eyes, Because of You, and Walk Away. Kelly Clarkson is extremely talented and has won two Grammies for Breakaway, "Best Pop Album" and "Best Pop Song: Since U Been Gone." I really reccomend this disk!!

Kelly Clarkson can really sing. I was unimpressed by her first cd, Thankful, but now i know why she won American Idol. She has a very strong voice and lyrics on this album are great!

I bought this cd not knowing what to expect. Would it be hard core? pop/bubble gum drop sounding? country? It was none of those. It was a cool sounding cd that i cant put into words. As soon as i listened to the cd i new it was gonna be huge. No doubt Since U Been Gone and Behind These Hazel Eyes were big hits, but now i suspect that some other great ones, like Where is Your Heart and You Found Me, might become singles.

Hey people if u enjoy a little sassy but nice singing that touches the soul, u've found it in Kelly Clarkson!!! I have started modeling my singing voice after her. She has such a broad range that she could sing anything!!! I also luv all of her songs are kissy-kissy yet clean, and that's rare these days!!!!

Let me start by saying I really loved "Thankful", and Kelly Clarkson all-together, however, I was sadly disappointed with this cd. What I appreciated so much about Kelly Clarkson was her distinct sound that set her apart from the average singer on the radio. She had her own style. What she' done on this album is try to sound like Avril Lavigne, yuk! In my opinion, Kelly went from attracting a 20-30 something audience, with her awesome, strong voice, to strictly teeny-boppers, who are the only ones who could possibly enjoy this cd. Even my husband hated most of it, and asked "is she trying to be Britney Spears"? on one of the tracks. I kinda like "Breakaway", but find the power-ballad after power-ballad annoying. And most of the time, the music drowns her out anyway. The highlight, and best song on the cd is the live version of "Beautiful Disaster", from her previous album. I hope this is just a phase. Bring back the soulful, songbird we all love.
