Overview

Drew and Jonathan Scott, New York Times bestselling authors and hosts of the Emmy-nominated hit HGTV show Property Brothers, bring their winning blend of imagination, humor, and can-do know-how to their first picture book.

It all begins when Drew and Jonathan are doing what they do best—thinking up big plans for even bigger projects. Will they build a treehouse? A castle? A catapult? They have a whole lot of big ideas, but no one thinks they can do any of them!

The twins brainstorm, scribble, and tinker until they have the perfect big plan. They’ll save every last penny, sketch out some designs, and make a whole lot of noise—builders aren’t known for being quiet—because they know that little kids can do big things.

But what will Drew and Jonathan do when their big plans don’t go the way they’d hoped? Find out in this heartwarming new story from everyone’s favorite twins.

And the book comes complete with an original do-it-yourself building project that parents and kids can tackle together at home. Everyone knows that every big plan starts with a dream!

I picked up this book because I like this illustrator but then, I saw it was about The Property Brothers so I scored twice! This was a cute, entertaining story from the brothers. You really have to love this illustrator. Her illustrations are bright, colorful and fun to look at. I love how much energy flows from the pages and how everything looks real, yet with a cartoonish flair to it. The ruler, crayons, and papers are proportionate to the page and there’s so much detail and items to look at, on each page. In this book, the brothers are young with big dreams. They want to build something amazing, but what? Like most kids, they want it to be specular but they can’t come up with the perfect plan until they see their dogs lying on the floor. They plan out everything perfectly, so they thought, until they take their final look at their final product and well, it wasn’t perfect. They have to adjust their thinking. It all works out in the end. It’s a cute book that I think shows kids that they shouldn’t give up on their dreams even if it doesn’t work out, just readjust their thinking or idea, it still works. I like how the boys work together, work hard and how they still go after their dreams even when others are not encouraging them. I like their facial expressions (from sad to happy to excited) all on the same project. There are also instructions on how to build a birdhouse on the last page.

The book was cute. However, I give it 4, because I bought a "Signed Copy" that looks like a copied signature. (Signature looks flat, printed on the page, not hand signed...)

We were happy for the opportunity to see Jonathan and Drew at the book signing in San Antonio, Texas. Our 4 year old son was so excited for them to read their book and hear it in their own voices. This book gives us insight into their young selves dreams and goals and gives hope that young ones can do anything they set their minds to.

The brothers say the book — aimed at kids ages 4 to 8 — will be the first in a series. For it, they drew on their real-life experiences as kids who loved to build stuff, including, once, a doghouse for a neighbor’s pet. “In the book, we build the doghouse too small and we thought it was just a failure, and we realize that whether or not it holds up, you learn from mistakes and grow from it,” Drew said. “So the book is a great lesson for kids to know failure is not a bad thing.” Drew said he and Jonathan “have always wanted to write something like this,” in part because “we keep seeing this audience of youth who love our show.” As part of their book release, the brothers also holding a contest that will offer a complete makeover to one U.S. public elementary school library. Nominations can be made through their web site.

The illustrations and childhood stories are motivational, humorous, and encouraging. Enjoyed the stories that the twins experienced as children.

I enjoyed your book. I loved the stories for children. This encourages all children that anything is possible. As an adult, it motivates me to go ahead and try new things.

This book is super cute, has beautiful illustrations as well as timeless morals that both children and adults can apply. The illustrations are so much fun. They are vibrant and riveting. The story line is cute and inspiring. It teaches that no matter who you are, big or small, you can fulfill your dreams if you work hard and believe in yourself. It also teaches that even if something doesn't turn out exactly how you thought it would, that there is always some good that comes out of it. I also love that they put instructions for your very own DIY project at the end. This is a great addition to any child's library.

Love the Property Brothers and this book didn't disappoint! Gave it to my niece for her birthday (her mom is a huge fan) and the two of them read it every night before bed. Such a great gift for kids of any age, or mom with Brother love!
