For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare - poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a U.S. Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force Tactical Air Controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events, inspiring Outside magazine to name him The Fittest (Real) Man in America. In Can't Hurt Me, he shares his astonishing life story and reveals that most of us tap into only 40% of our capabilities. Goggins calls this The 40% Rule, and his story illuminates a path that anyone can follow to push past pain, demolish fear, and reach their full potential.

David Goggins' book radically changed my view on life. It helped me to understand my violent upbringing, the fearful life I lead, the reservoir of regrets, and the man I look at in the mirror. Moreover, Goggins helped me to redefine pain and success. Pain is not an impenetrable wall: it is meant to be scaled. Success isn't about a trophy; it's the sense of personal pride over taking a soul, or accomplishing what I set out to do. I am convinced I've seen or read every interview from David Goggins before reading this book. I wondered how much more could there be to his story. After reading the book, there is a hell of a lot more. The story connects the monumental pillars of his accomplishment with the real-life pain, rejection, disappointment, effort, blood, sweat, and tears that went into his successes. It's as real as it gets. The book makes you want to shield the young boy that he was and aspire to be the man he is today. All in all, I would strongly recommend this book to any one.

This is one of the best books I've read this year. David is the push-it-to-the limit and then push some more Guru...AND, he's right, we are ALL capable of doing more--and we have cheated ourselves out of a lot by settling for mediocrity and the 'I can't do it' mentality. Let's put down the ding dongs and the excuses and get up off our lazy butts and do it! Well, David doesn't say it as nice and I've said it but it's in the book....

I've watched and listened to David in numerous podcasts and have always wondered what made this very intense, straightforward, driven individual who he is. And now we have it. This is an awesome read and I can relate with him on many levels with what he discusses; especially his early childhood. I read some of the other reviews who were put off by his prolific use of profanity. All I would is that one, they weren't paying attention to what he was saying and secondly, to put it bluntly, get over it. David is as real as it gets, he doesn't sugarcoat anything. Some also indicated he was a bit too extreme, which he readily admits, but he's not saying that people should be like him. He's saying don't give up so easily when things get a little uncomfortable. Push yourself. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. That doesn't mean go out tomorrow and run a one-hundred-mile race if you never ran more than a mile in your life. Do something small. Challenge yourself to read a hundred pages a day; if that's too much, start with twenty and work your way up to a hundred. Before you know it, you'll be reading four to five (possibly more) books a month.

Great read. I loved this book, it changed me for the better. I was so disappointed when I was done with the book because I wanted more. So I have been watching every podcast I can with David. I really enjoyed the book. I would also recommend the book Living with a Seal.

One of the best books I have ever read that holds me accountable and pushed me to make serious changes in my life. Will I be him after? No, but that is not his message. It is a battle with your mind and opening potential that is untapped. I bought this book for my entire sales team as a gift. My hope is that this not only helps their work life but also their personal life.

I'm happy for David, and I know that he will continue to pursue greatness in his own way, which is great. I only hope that his personal relationships don't suffer too much, in other words, I don't want him to experience another setback in terms of a divorce or other family matter. This was a great read though. Be safe and stay warm!

Great book! Inspiring as hell. If you don't like profanity, don't read it, but if you want a gritty account of one man and his self-motivated drive for something beyond mediocrity, this is it. It makes me push a little harder in my day to day life, realizing how much more we can all accomplish-and how much more pain and discomfort we can all endure-than we think we can. Great stuff! And check out some of his talks on You tube for further inspiration.
