The first three chapters introduce the history and the most important developers such as John Napier, John Atanasoff, Steve Jobs, Vinton Cerf, Bill Gates, Tim Berners-Lee, and Marc Andreessen. This is followed by discussions of the changes in and challenges to society, including the environmental problems caused by the many toxic substances that computers contain and the difficulty of disposing of the machines that have been discarded.
