Coolest Christmas

Coolest Christmas

CD

Overview

The Coolest Christmas is an odd holiday collection, featuring as many classic Christmas recordings (Roy Orbison's "Pretty Paper," Dean Martin's "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!," Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," Guy Lombardo's "Auld Lang Syne") as novelties (Elmo n' Patsy's "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer") and oddities (the Clancy Brothers' "Jingle Bells," Eartha Kitt's "Santa Baby," the Cocteau Twins "Frosty the Snowman," the Alarm's "Happy Christmas (War is Over)"). There are also some Beach Boys, Ventures, and George Thorogood tunes thrown into the mix, raising the question of just who this collection is for. It's unlikely anyone will like everything on this disc, but there's enough variety and solid tracks to make it a good choice for freewheeling holiday parties.
