Overview

The twenty-one stories in this collection typify the phenomenal growth Chicano literature has undergone during the past two decades. The stories range from those complex narratives, from depictions of a childlike innocence to world-weary knowledge, from accounts of migrant life to middle-class anxieties, and from celebrations of the family to explorations of the supernatural. No central theme or point of view unites the stories; rather there emerges in each a personal aesthetic vision.

Students of literature and creative writing as well as specialists in contemporary politics and social change will find this anthology especially rich reading. Included are such established authors as Rudolfo A. Anaya, E. A. Mares, and Bruce-Novoa along with the best of the emerging new writers including Denise Chávez and Mario Suarez.

'Cuentos Chicanos' is a collection of short stories by Hispanics. Most of the stories have to deal with the life of Hispanic culture. Some the of the stories have been told for years and have been down for years, some have been from the present days. Some of the stories don't all have to deal with the Hispanic culture there are a few that are from different cultures. The stories have been collected from 21 years ago. Most of the them were good some were weird, but there were two or three that were all in Spanish in order to read these stories you would have to be able to read Spanish.

This book is very good. Anaya and Marquez do a very good job writing this book They collected some really good stories. From most of these stories readers get the sense of what it was like for the Hispanic culture. Most of the stories were very good but this book is not made for children because it was very violent context and explicit content. If stories about different cultures are what you like to read then read ' Cuentos Chicanos.'
