"D.B. Reynolds has outdone herself with this exhilarating story."--Fresh Fiction on Vincent

"Luscious erotic sex scenes are filled with playful banter and deep sensual imagery . . ."– of Vincent

Kauai, Hawaii--tropical paradise, vibrant jungles, turquoise seas . . . and sensuous nights that hide vampires so powerful they can change the world.

Raphael--powerful, extraordinary, arrogant. He's been eliminating rivals and gathering allies, determined not just to survive, but to demolish the Europeans who think they can steal what he's worked for centuries to create. In a final bid to avert a war that seems inevitable, Raphael agrees to meet an enemy he knows of old. She is formidable, wily, and not to be trusted. But in his arrogance, Raphael believes he can foil whatever treachery she has brewing.

Cynthia Leighton--Raphael's human mate, beautiful, smart, and deadly when threatened. She doesn't trust anyone, much less a powerful vampire claiming to want peace. So while Raphael prepares to negotiate a treaty, Cyn is preparing for the inevitable double-cross that she knows is coming. Raphael worries about saving thousands of vampire lives. She only cares about one, and she will do anything to keep him alive and in her arms.

When Cyn is proven right, when it all falls apart and Raphael's enemies draw on ancient magic to trap him, taking him away from Cyn and out of the war, it all falls to her--to find Raphael, to save the thousands of vampires who will die if she doesn't succeed . . . and to kill every single being, human or vampire, who gets in her way.

D. B. Reynolds is the RT award-winning author of the popular Vampires in America series of Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy, and an Emmy-nominated television sound editor. She lives in a flammable canyon near Los Angeles, and when she's not writing her own books, she can usually be found reading someone else's.

Cynthia and Raphael are once again the main focus of this ninth novel in the series where the hostilities between the American and European vampires that have been building in the other books come to fruition. Raphael is “invited” to a meeting to discuss the situation at his remote territory of Hawaii with some very old vampire lords who covet his share of North America. Raphael’s confidence in his superior strength and power along with his hard work to place his allies across America seems to make him overly confident in his abilities. He feels he has no choice but to attend and confront the delegation in person against Cynthia’s wishes and instincts as well as those of Juro and Jared. Not unexpectedly when men and vampires don’t listen, things go awry causing Cynthia to face her toughest battle yet which places her in the fight of her life to rescue Raphael from the treachery of an old nemesis who tricks him into captivity. Much of the action of this book involves Cynthia and her guards, Robbie and Elke, as they plan, implement, and execute the rescue of Raphael before his time and his life run out. They are on a tight clock to find him before Mathilde, his captor, arrives in his territory to force a challenge so that she can become the vampire lord over his territory and subsequently conquer America. Juro and Jared head back to Malibu to hold the fort while Cynthia, along with her crew, brings all her skills in detective/PI work as well as her knowledge of the vampire world to find Raphael before it is too late. While much of this planning goes off with military precision, Cynthia’s love for and connection to Raphael, even while they are separated, gives heart to the story. They have already been through some difficult situations; however, this one will test every one of their combined strengths, skills, and abilities. It’s always fun to watch Cyn outmaneuver and outwit the arrogant vampires who assume a mere human can never triumph over them. Raphael has learned that his Cyn is a woman capable of tearing the world apart to find and protect the man she loves. I always enjoy the books and novellas with Raphael and Cynthia since they are the beginning central characters, so it was good to come back into their story that kicks off this next phase as the author states: “This book also begins a new story arc in my Vampires in America universe. It's called The Vampire Wars, lots of vampire on vampire fight action, to go along with lots of romance....” I imagine the old “fasten your seat belts, it’s going to be a bumpy ride” will apply to this new arc in the VIA series. Fans should be well pleased seeing Cynthia once again at her fighting best as well as the progression of Raphael and Cynthia’s relationship in which their love continues to strengthen as well as their teamwork to protect and defend each other and those under their care

Raphael was the head of Raphael Enterprises. Raphael’s sister Alexandra had been killed by a vampire because he had no more use of her. Raphael was torturing said vampire and his lover Cynthia/Cyn who was a human watched. Raphael was not usually this cruel but the vampire Damien was at fault. Juro was Raphael’s head of security. It tokw Raphael a year to get Cyn to consider his home hers also. Raphael loved Cyn and was determined not to give her up. A letter arrived written in blood as was the old way from the European vampire Lords requesting a meeting under the flag of truce in Hawaii. Raphael was going in the hopes of averting war. But the Europeans use magic to trap Raphael and take him away. Now it is up to Cyn and those who be at her side to get Raphael back. Absolutely loved this story. I could not put it down. To see things switched where Raphael is captured even though he doesn’t give up just has to try to think of a way to free himself. Now it’s up to Cyn at first she is very shaken but knows she has to put her big girl shoes on and find out who will stand with her to free Raphael. The characters were absolutely great love the series but this is my favorite. Love all the twists and turns Cyn and Raphael go through. I highly recommend. I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.

Deception, Book 9 of The Vampires in America Series, D.B. Reynolds Genre:  Romance, Sci-fi and Fantasy.  Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews Another winner from Debbie! I love this series, have read all the main books and the novellas. It’s one I love to re-read so its great value for money, and each time I find things I’d missed on prior reading. The main books have, up to now, focussed on an individual couple, but always with that overarching plot of the European Vampires wanting parts of North America. Land is tight in Europe and the Vampires want to expand their territories. Raphael has long suspected this was coming, and been quietly shoring up defences, encouraging younger and stronger vampires to take over from the old weak ones, who might provide an opening to the Europe mob...and alongside that he’s of course been building unspoken but known alliances. There’s a lot said with the right bit of help, the right nod, that creates unspoken but binding allegiances. Raphael doesn’t want more territory, more power, but he does hold his responsibilities to his Vampires highly, and he’ll do everything he can to keep them safe.  I’ve loved the past books, and have seen how they have been slowly building to this. I love the duo of Raphael and Cyn, she’s tough and he wouldn’t be right with a simpering, ladylike, tearful and dependent Mate. He values Cyn’s strength, her talent for planning and ability to fight. She knows in a one on one she’s not up to a Vampire, but she also knows their arrogance means most of them tend to overlook humans, simply seeing them as weak and unable to fight back. That’s how she killed Jabril ( though of course the word is that Raphael did the deed. They want to keep Cyn’s abilities quiet, and of course if word got out Jabril was killed by a human there would be an outcry).  Now the gauntlet has been thrown, and Raphael has to respond. Supposedly a “friendly” meeting in Hawaii to discuss a Treaty, he’s stuck, they know its a trap and they also know he has to go. He thinks he’s protected with his immense strength, but is wary. He’s made what plans he can but he can’t cover unknown angles. He doesn’t realise just how far Mathilde will go though, and she knows he’s stronger so employs some very underhanded methods using ancient magic, something unheard of for centuries, to capture him. Cyn though doesn’t accept that he has to go, nothing can be done etc...she makes her own plans quietly with Robbie, working at a frantic pace to free him before Mathilde can claim his Territory. Its a great read, bringing in some of the people we know from past books; Robbie, Elke, Juro’s twin Ke’ichi ( I don’t recall him but he’s one of the strong silent types so that’s no surprise). It’s a race against time, and bring in all Cyn's strength in planning, her love for Raphael and the group work together as a small but solid team. Its full of danger and surprises – not least that one about Nick. Remember him from the first book? Cyn’s casual lover when he’s in town – that came as a real shock, and I hope we see more of him in future reads! One of the things I love about Debbie’s writing is she focuses on personalities, making each of them having their own strengths and weaknesses, and into very definite characters. There are no quick fixes, when someone has to be fought its a battle using known weapons and talents, and its not “battle heavy” – where there are pages and pages of bloodthirsty gore, and descriptions of weapons that fly over my head. Debbie keeps it basic and that actually sharpens it for me, makes it feel real, and I can follow what happens. Stars: Stars: Five, another fabulous read and one for the keepers file ARC provided by Netgalley and publishers

Returning to Rapheal and Cyn we get full length novel that expands their world while still maintaining the high standards of character development. I love this book and this series. I would advise reading at least the first book, "Rapheal" first but there is enough back story included to stand alone.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!! ***Received ebook from Belle Books for an honest review The cover is beautiful and desperate all at the same time!  Love it!! This is book 9 in the series and the first book dealing with the war.  Of course, this whole series is for adults only due to the violence and steamy scenes contained within the pages.  It stars my favorite people…vampires are considered people too, right ;)  Anywho, Raphael and Cyn are here and all their friends!! WOW!!  I can’t even put into words how much I loved this book!  The books with Cyn and Raphael are always my favorites, but this was the best of the best in the series!!  Their personalities, interactions, and of course the people who love them just make everything click together perfectly.  Cyn definitely had her work cut out for her in this book.  All of our favorites are here, and we get to know Ken’ichi (Juro’s brother) better :) D.B.’s creativity is amazing in her storylines and plot.  Her words are always perfection that images leap off the pages and into your head as you read.  You can always feel the emotion of the characters that if you like me…you really love, so you feel their pain, relief, and joy right along with them.  It is like being Bastien in the Neverending Story right there with the characters.  D.B. is on my list of favorite vampire romance series.  She blends tons of action with lots of love and steamy romance and does with a perfection that makes each story an epic adventure that you do not want to put down. I highly recommend this entire series to all readers who enjoy vampire books.  If you are a fan of vampire books written by Lynsay Sands or Kerrelyn Sparks, and you have never read this series….what are you thinking??  You really need to :)

This is a fantastic book! If I already admired greatly Cyn, and I did, I do admire her much more now for she was the one that understood early on that Raphael's meeting with the European vampire wouldn't go so well and she was the one that could rescue him. I love everything in this series! DECEPTION is the first installment in The Vampire Wars arc and it continues to amaze me how well D.B. Reynolds concocts her inteligent and clever plots with the most romantic heroes and the most loyal friends and the Lords'people. Needless to say, I'm anxious for what's coming next!
