Overview

A practical guide to letting go of the character defects that get in the way of true and joyful recovery.

Resentment. Fear. Self-Pity. Intolerance. Anger. As Bill P. explains, these are the "rocks" that can sink recovery—or at the least, block further progress. Based on the principles behind Steps Six and Seven, Drop the Rock combines personal stories, practical advice, and powerful insights to help readers move forward in recovery. The second edition features additional stories and a reference section.

I really was inspired by this book. If you want to see things different and be different this book will give you some perspective on how to accomplish this. "My defects remind me that there is a God and it's not me". I really enjoyed the personal stories. These two steps can make the difference between just living sober and living a sober and happy life free of your character defects. This book illuminates these misunderstood steps in a way that was easy to understand. It¿s a much needed addition to my recovery library. Thank you.

This book really gave me insight into steps 6 & 7. I didn’t realize I didn’t understand them much until I read this.

Although it might be easy to dismiss this book, saying there's little new here, my experience was more a case of recognition, as it, "well, of course, know why didn't I see that before?" I double-digit years in recovery and wish I'd found this book when I was doing the 6th and 7th steps (although they're the sorts of steps one never quite stops doing as life's path takes new twists and turns) and I now recommend it to people who ask my advice on how to identify what might be holding them back on their spiritual journey. It's a straight-forward, clearly written examination of possible character defects, with highly useful suggestions as to how to free one's self. I am particularly pleased to see Joe McQ quoted so much, as he was influential in my own understanding of sobriety, and spiritual growth, and a man I much admired. Not only is this an extremely helpful book for those working "The Steps" for the first time, but it's a wonderful refresher course for those of us who've been around for a while and want to keep things green. Recommended.

Received book, and I'm surprised it is pretty much brand new considering it was listed as used! Can't beat the price, with a new book. Great information on 6 & 7

I have finally begun to understand the barest beginning of the implication of these vital and, at least for me, these two steps. Thanks.

Drop the rock gives various examples of stories regarding steps 6 & 7 which for most people in program, does not get a thorough review.
