Director Gus Van Sant returns to Good Will Hunting territory in this heartwarming drama that has been nicely presented on DVD by Columbia TriStar. While devoid of the usual goodies, such as a director's commentary, this disc still has plenty to offer. The picture is a pleasant 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. The Bronx locations look very vibrant here, especially in the sequence at Yankee Stadium. Finding Forrester isn't a sound-driven film, but its Dolby Digital 5.1 presentation is effective nonetheless. Extras are sparse, but decent. There is an HBO special, a pair of deleted scenes, and a look at the discovery of actor Rob Brown, an unknown who was chosen to portray the film's lead character. One also can view the film's trailer (as well as trailers for other movies starring Forrester cast members), and peruse cast and crew bios. Some may gripe at the absence of a commentary or outtakes, but few will be displeased with Finding Forrester's excellent picture and sound.
