Bruce McDonald's excellent mockumentary about a Canadian punk band imploding during their final tour gets a strong, if bare-boned, presentation on DVD. Beyond the original theatrical trailer and a few ad spots for other Miramax/Rolling Thunder video releases, there's nothing in the way of bonus material. But the 1.85:1 letterboxed transfer (which is enhanced for playback on widescreen monitors) looks great; it's pin sharp and does a great job of capturing the film's details, and the Dolby Digital Surround mix makes the most of Bill Sheppard's superb sound design. The film is also subtitled in English, and the titles are generally accurate outside of a few anomalies here and there (a band's contract would allow for "lots of booze on the rider," not the "Ryder"). While fans of this underrated item might have hoped for a few more bells and whistles, on DVD Hard Core Logo looks and sounds just as good as it deserves to, and that alone makes this disc worth a look.
