Overview

Being a lone young boy in the 'hood" is dangerous and unpleasant. This is what Max (Francis Capra) experiences when he fools a gang of local toughs who cornered him at school. The gang finds out that the key he gave them is of no value in committing a robbery, and they chase him through the streets of his neighborhood, bent on revenge. He tries to escape by slipping into the open door of an old warehouse, but they follow him there, too. While running from them through aisles filled with all kinds of stuff, he bumps into an old boom box. By doing that, he manages to release Kazaam (basketball great Shaquille O'Neal), a genie who has been held captive for thousands of years. In order to stay free, Kazaam must give Max three wishes.

Brings back childhood memories, all the wrong ones, sadly. Do you really want a breakdancing 8" tall genie hanging around as your best friend? Is that a healthy role model to havewhen you're impressionably young. I'd have rather hung out with Belial from Basket Case. For those of you who haven't seen Basket Case, Belial is a hairless conjoined twin who didn't have feet, basically an overgrown head whose only form of locomoton was shambling around with his very small hands. I guess the movie was named Basket Case because he slept in a laundry basket. I saw Basket Case one hot afternoon on RPN 9, and I knew the memory of his ugly yet captivating grimace would be etched in my mind forever. I knew if I grew up with a brother like that, I'd learn more about tolerance and love for all of God's creatures. Not some in your face, sass talking, jive eating breakdancing genie fool, of whom I pity. Shaq would parlay his acting skills next in Steel. Steel! In seriousness, real Shaq fans should avoid all his '95-'96 multimedia stuff like the plague. If there's an NBA DVD of him, go and get that.
