Beverly Sills has always been one of my favorite singers. I think she has been badly underrated and underrecorded. Watching her Violetta at this live Wolf Trap show should convince anyone. She gets so much emotion into her voice and face. Tenor Henry Price has a very light voice, but he also sings with emotion and acts well. Richard Fredricks plays Germont pere very well. Sills' frequent accompanist Julius Rudel leads the orchestra with feeling in this beautiful music. Sills gives a 2-minute description of the opera at the beginning. The subtitles can't be turned off. The sound and picture are very good, but there's a hiss like cassettes have.
