Laramie ranked among the most popular western TV series of the late 1950s and early '60s, the golden age of family westerns. Set in the Wyoming Territory in the 1870s, the saga focuses on two brothers and a drifter who run a stagecoach stop. John Smith plays the older brother, Slim Sherman, and Robert Crawford Jr. plays Sherman's younger brother, Andy. Eventually, Jess Harper (Robert Fuller) drifts into Laramie and joins up with the brothers in their struggle against long odds. Shifting to color after its first two black-and-white seasons, this third roundup (1961-62) finds Andy off to St. Louis to attend school. In his place, the producers brought in Dennis Holmes as Mike Williams, an 11-year-old whom Slim and Jess take under their wing, and veteran character actress Spring Byington as Miss Daisy Cooper, a mother figure. A terrific parade of guest stars passed through this third season, including Denver Pyle, Dan Duryea, Robert Blake, Leonard Nimoy, Harry Dean Stanton, Cloris Leachman, and Jay Silverheels. This six-disc set brings you all 29 color episodes, complete and uncut, including an exclusive interview with Robert Fuller.

The shows are presented in as excellent a quality as can be for a 50 year old series. They come close to being perfect. Anyone who likes the old Westerns or would like to view one of the best of the era will be glad they purchased this DVD.

Unlike the first two seasons, Laramie - Season 3 is in color...And we're talking the 1961-'62 season. Not many westerns were filmed in color in 1961. (Bonanza is the most familiar) Laramie, also an NBC program aired from 1959 to 1963...the first two years in black and white. Robert Fuller (later of Wagon Train and Emergency) in his first starring role...alongside John Smith as ranchers in Wyoming Territory and owners of a stageline way station. The two are paired quite well as Jess Harper and Slim Sherman, respectively. Like in most early sixties westerns, there are lots of fist fights, some gunplay and horseback chases. Because of the stageline plot, many renowned guest stars from the late fifties and early sixties appeared each week seeking Jess and Slim's help, or were otherwise the villain(s) in the episode. Famed writer and folksinger Hoagy Carmichael was cast in the first two seasons, as well as Robert Crawford (brother of The Rifleman's Johnny Crawford), but were written out and replaced by Spring Byington (December Bride) and Dennis Holmes as housekeeper and adopted orphan for the ranch owners. Laramie also is best known for its' terrific title theme and wonderful western scenery. Season four is also available. For some great western classic TV moments, take a stage ride to and through "Laramie."
