Sylvester Stallone gives comedy another try in this farce set in the 1930s. Angelo "Snaps" Provelone (Stallone) is the wealthy and powerful head of the Chicago mob, but his ailing father (Kirk Douglas) doesn't approve of his life in crime, and on his deathbed, Dad makes Snaps promise to go straight. Determined to honor his late father's wishes, Snaps decides to go into banking -- just as his life has fallen into chaos. Anthony Russano (Vincent Spano) informs Snaps that he's hijacked $50,000 of his money and wants to marry his daughter. Snaps discovers that his daughter Lisa (Marisa Tomei) is actually involved with the chauffeur, Oscar (Jim Mulholland), but Anthony's girlfriend Theresa (Elizabeth Barondes) has convinced her beau that Snaps is her father. Snaps hopes to use this misunderstanding as a way of getting his money back, but in the meantime, he has to deal with a wary banking board, rival mob boss Vendetti (Richard Romanus), prissy elocution coach Thornton (Tim Curry), and Snaps' one-time girlfriend Roxanne (Linda Gray). Oscar's stellar supporting cast includes Don Ameche, Chazz Palminteri, Harry Shearer, Eddie Bracken, Yvonne DeCarlo, and Bruce Davison.

I loved Oscar. Stallone is at his best in comedy. Don't care about the macho series. Often give Oscar as a gift.

I first saw this movie when I was really young, about six or seven years old, probably when it was first aired on tv. My mom had recorded it for me to watch thinking it would be a movie I would like. Boy, was she right! I have probably watched this movie more than a hundred times (literally) and can quotes from it right at hand. I think it is the best movie ever made dispite the horible revies it got when released. Its witty, entertaining and down right hilarious, a must see for people with a sense of humor.

This plot and speed of this movie is very quick and witty. No moment is slow or dull! The dialog is one that you might have to watch is a few times to catch all the subtle jokes. Overall, one of the best movies ever!

While this was panned by the critics, I really don't understand why. This movie is clever, and funny, and have a stellar cast. Marisa Tomei pre-fame is terrific, and Tim Curry is the funniest Elocution coach ever. This is a great comedy of errors!!

I saw this movie for the first time two years ago, and since then it's been my absolute favorite. There isn't another movie that is it's league, in my opinion. Sylvester Stallone is completely hilarious, as well as Tim Currey, and everyone else in the cast. The comedic timing is perfect, and the plot keeps you involved. Watching ''Oscar'' is the hardest I have ever laughed at a movie. It's definitely a must-see!

Oscar has been a family favorite for a long time. The timing is fantastic, the characters are well played out, it may be a little on the silly side but imho there are too few of those movies out there. We moved to a house under a radio tower and have been unable to watch any of our extensive collection of Video tapes due to interference, DVD's are unaffected, so Oscar has been sorely missed! (don't even get me started on Star Wars)

This movie is so hilarious! I remember seeing it when it first came out, and I have seen it many, many times since then. I haven't seen it in a few years, and I am actually seeking a copy, it's that funny. All the actors gave great performances, and even though the movie is about a very hectic and confusing day, it is easy to follow but still able to appreciate the madness and the humor of it. I would definitely recommend this movie!

I saw this movie for the first time many years ago and ever since then I've been on a mission to instruct the world of their wandering ways. Everyone should see this movie atleast twice. The first time you see it, you are so overwhelmed that you miss some things, so the second time is to pick-up all that you missed. Trust me, from one avid movie-watcher to another, you NEED to see this.
