Overview

John Woo directs the sci-fi action thriller Paycheck, based on a story written by Philip K. Dick in 1953. Waking up with his short-term memory erased, engineer Michael Jennings (Ben Affleck) learns that he has been doing highly secretive work for the last three years in exchange for billions of dollars. But when he tries to get paid, he finds out that he himself had previously exchanged the money for an envelope of random clues to his life. Chased by an FBI agent (Michael C. Hall) and his old boss Rethrick (Aaron Eckhart), Michael uses the clues to find out his identity and prove his innocence. Uma Thurman appears as his love interest and partner, Rachel.

I saw this in the theater and hardly anyone else was there. Once again, adapting a story by one of the great sci-fi writers is a success, if not necessarily a financial success. Until Ben Affleck's character figures out the premise of what's happening, everything seems contrived. In fact, it is contrived, but that's the beauty of this movie! For the viewer, try figuring out the use of each item in the envelope before Affleck's character does. And Uma Thurman looks real good in this one, too.

This will go on my shelf of other great movies that were box office snoozers like Enemy Mine. Drama, Science, Adventure & Intrigue all rolled together with nearly non-stop action. The viewer will barely get a chance to catch their breath before the action takes off to another higher plateau. The final action scene ends in a crescendo of explosions which fades into an "They all lived happily ever after" ending.

It was such a good movie. It makes you want to figure out what is going on. Usually I just like to sit and watch movies but for this one I wanted to figure everything out and feel apart of it. You have to see this!!!
