Rat Race

Rat Race

Director: Jerry Zucker Cast: Rowan Atkinson, John Cleese, Whoopi Goldberg

A very loose remake of the classic multi-star comedy It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963), this madcap comedy is directed by Jerry Zucker, one third of the Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker comedy team and director of Ghost (1990). John Cleese stars as an eccentric casino owner who devises a contest pitting six teams against each other in a race to claim two million dollars from a locker in New Mexico. The competitors are Owen (Cuba Gooding Jr., who ends up driving a bus full of Lucille Ball imitators, a foreigner (Rowan Atkinson) who hitches a ride in an organ donor vehicle, and a recently reunited mother and daughter (Whoopi Goldberg and Lanei Chapman) who anger a "squirrel lady" (Kathy Bates) -- much to their regret. There are also two con artist brothers (Seth Green and Vince Vieluf), the upright Nick (Breckin Meyer), who gets a lift from cute but psychotic pilot Tracy (Amy Smart), and the eccentric Pear family, headed up by Jon Lovitz. Rat Race also stars Dave Thomas, Kathy Najimy, Wayne Knight, Dean Cain, and Paul Rodriguez.

My family has watched this at least 5 times and we laugh so hard our sides ache each time. Great cast, great writing. PG-13 rating means there are two brief scenes with sexual dialogue not appropriate for the tweens.

This is quite possibly the best movie i've ever seen. its so funny, i have to own it. my favorite character is easily enrico (no pun intended). i love the nazi parts and the ''Look! A drifter! Let's kill him!''. Someone email me if youve found a better movie than this or anything that comes close. 5 stars all the way!!!

this has to be one of the funniest movies of modern times. The story is similar to that of 'it's a mad mad mad mad world' but much funnier. The family has to be the besat characters. "I can't believe you stole Hitler's car" and the part where the girl needs to go to the bathroom, and the barbie museaum. If you find a better movie, i would love to hear about it. once you see it the first time, you know you need to add it to your dvd collection.

If you enjoy characters that make you laugh 'til you cry, cows that become tethered to hot air balloons, female helicoptor pilots throwing paint at unfaithful boyfriends from above, and MUCH MUCH more hilarity, you have got to see this film. Amy Smart is particularly delightful as the jilted girlfriend. Her transformation from cute, sweet, lovable girl to psychotic, angry, jilted female is amazing. This is one of the most entertaining films I've ever seen.

This is by far thew funniest movie I have ever seen, Seth Green's Character and his brother are funny to no end, with their udder stupidity, Cuba Gooding Jr. Versus the Lucy Gang was just flat out Funny, and of course the ways the Millioanres find entertainment.

I just love this movie. It's funny. The characters and the situations are hilarious by noticing I have this on vhs, and I just purchased this on dvd. Since they are not making vcrs or the vhs anymore.

This was a very devious and well-acted comedy! It was to the point where I was grabbing onto my stomach, crying, and falling of the couch because I was laughing so hard. It's all acted well (esp. Kathy Bates as ''The Squirrel Lady'') and it will have you root for more than just on main character. This is a comedy I definately recommend to be seen!

Rat Race is, by far, the most amusing movie I have seen since Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Though it never gained much momentum while in the theaters, the casting and the plot were utter genius. John Cleese, as usual, shines in this film, as do the rest of the irreverent and somewhat foolish characters. No one should regret purchasing this movie!

This has got to be one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time...but of course how could it not be funny? My all time new favorite funny man Rowan Atkinson is wonderful. Whoppie Goldberg is great and the rest of the cast had us rolling in the aisles...great flick

This is one of the funniest movies ever! HAHAHAHA! You can tell that it is going to be funny from the start when the animated characters are jumping around doing hilarious things. This movie is about six teams of people racing to Silver City, New Mexico for two million dollars. The hotel owner, Donald Sinclair (John Cleese) is the person who starts the race. He's eccentric and he loves gambling with his gambling buddies. The six teams are: 1) Owen Templeton (Cuba Gooding, Jr.). Owen is a bonehead football referee who finds himself stranded in the desert; 2) Duane Cody (Seth Green) and Blaine Cody (Vince Vieluf). They are brothers who are complete idiots. They are always trying to get money any way they can; 3) Nick Schaffer (Breckin Meyer) and Tracy Faucet (Amy Smart). Nick is an innocent guy who doesn't want to do anything wrong. Tracy is a maniac helicopter driver who doesn't like being double-crossed; 4) Vera Baker (Whoopi Goldberg) and Merrill Jennings (Lanai Chapman). They are mother and daughter. Vera is simple-minded and wants to go slow, while Merrill wants to do everything so fast; 5) Randy Pear (Jon Lovitz) and Bev Pear (Kathy Najimy) and their children. Randy never wants to stop while Bev and the kids like to stop, and last but not least; 6) Enrico Pollini (Rowan Atkinson). Enrico is a narcoleptic person who likes to talk before knowing or thinking about what would happen next. Enrico is my personal favorite. Also starring: Silas Weir Mitchell (hardware guy); Paul Rodriguez (taxicab driver); Jillian Marie Hubert (Randy's daughter, Kimberly); Brody Smith (Randy's son, Jason); Wayne Knight (Mr. Zack); Gloria Allred (herself); Dave Thomas (Mr. Grisham); Dean Cain (Shawn); Anaya Farrell & Peggy Jo Jacobs & Linda Kerns & Christine MacInnis (Lucy's); Brandy Ledford (Vicki); Dave Powledge (mechanic); Tristin Leffler (pierced girl); and Smashmouth (himself). You will laugh your head off as soon as this movie starts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rat Race is the single most humorous movie I have ever seen my entire life. The classic tongue-and-cheek scenario is simply irresistible. When I first became aware of it last summer, I assumed (erroneously) that it was just another insipid modern comedy. HOW WRONG I WAS! You must see this movie, even if it does not appeal to you initially. By the end, you will be rolling on the floor (as I was), and wanting more. I am definitely buying it as soon as the price goes down!
