The story of Alice in Wonderland receives a hyper-violent makeover in Watchmen and 300 director Zack Snyder's fantastical tale of a young psychiatric patient who escapes into a vivid world of fantasy after being committed to a mental hospital by her abusive stepfather. Set in the 1950s, Sucker Punch takes viewers on an incredible journey into the mind of Babydoll (Emily Browning), who finds herself at the mercy of her malevolent stepfather after her mother passes away. With no remaining family and no friends to turn to, her stepfather has her committed to a bleak mental hospital, where she is scheduled to receive a lobotomy in five days. As the procedure draws near, Babydoll creates a phantasmagorical alternate reality in which she must seek out five items in order to secure her freedom. Should she fail, her mind isn't the only thing she stands to lose. Abbie Cornish, Vanessa Hudgens, Carla Gugino, and Jon Hamm co-star in a film co-written by Snyder and Steve Shibuya.

Different people I know who have seen this had mixed feelings about this movie...some of them hated it because they didn't like the story and how the movie ended, and I can understand where they're coming from to a degree. My main attraction to this particular movie was that Zack Snyder was directing...he is one of my favorite directors, and I have rather liked all of his movies up to this point. I enjoy the type of movies he creates, and I really admire the special effects and visual style used within many of his movies...which is present mainly in 300, The Watchmen, and this movie. Even the animation on Legend of the Guardains was amazing. His debut film, other than a Michael Jordan documentary, was a remake of Dawn of the Dead, and in my opinion it is one of the best remakes I have ever seen, let alone best serious zombie film since some of Romero's classics. I have pretty much been following Zack Snyder's career ever since I saw that film. While Sucker Punch may not be my top favorite of his movies, (Watchmen takes that position), and while I agree that the story aside from the action/fantasy bits was a bit depressing, I still really liked this movie. Not every movie is a happy story with an overall happy ending. This one still had a slight bit of a happy ending in a way, but only to a degree, but the story was pretty good in general, sad overall as it may have been, and the acting was decent and the action and special effects were amazing! If a slightly sad tale doesn't bother you too much and you like cool visuals and special effects & good action, I do recommend checking this movie out. If you hate tragic stories, you may want to avoid it, but overall it's a pretty good flick I think. Zack Snyder is awesome!

Incredible action sequences--check. Gorgeous-dark visuals--check. Great costumes--check. Girls kickin' butt--check. Great storyline, character developement, and watch-over-an-over appeal--NO! NO! NO! The action, visuals, & costumes were great. The all-female cast idea great. Plot ... what plot? It was strange, subtle, often confusing, and just not all that interesting. The character's nicknames were cute, but who are the characters? You really don't get to know these girls all that much. Bigtime gamers and over-all actioni freaks who loved 300 we relish this movive; they'll love it. Me? Not so much. Glad I saw because I'm always up for girls kickin' butt ... but not when there's no story and the action is so over the top, it often becomes boring, but that's just my opinion. I'm just happy I got it at the rented it for a dollar.

this movie wasn't bad it was just odd. the ending left me really confused. This movie was not what I expected at all. To be honest I only rented it because Vanessa Hudgens is one of my favorite actresses. The ending was shocking which is usually the sign of a good movie but the ending of this movie was just bad. All in all this is not a movie I would recommend or want to see again.

The visuals were stunning. Liked some of the elements with the fantasy, steampunk etc moments. Interesting ideas but for the rest of the movie was okay.
