Set in 1888, this tuneful fact-based Disney production concerns the attempts of a musically talented family of Dakota pioneers -- who are politically divided on the upcoming presidential election -- to wrangle an invite to that year's Democratic convention in cosmopolitan St. Louis. Incumbent Grover Cleveland is attempting to win his second straight election and is challenged by Benjamin Harrison. The results are that Cleveland won the popular vote, but Harrison won the electoral vote to be declared President of the United States. Cleveland would win the next election to become the only President to ever serve two non-consecutive terms. Walter Brennan, Buddy Ebsen, Janet Blair, Richard Deacon, Wally Cox, John Davidson and Leslie Ann Warren round out the adult cast. Along with the moppets, they sing and dance to espouse their political allegiances to the candidate of their choice. Look closely for Goldie Hawn in her first film role as a laughing chorine.

Here is a show that was originally planned for the Disney tv show...padded out with songs, and released to theaters instead. The result is a mixed bag. The cast is fine and the story unique, but the songs are just filler..pleasant and not much else. Of greater interest here is the commentary track with Lesley Ann Warren and John Davidson, which covers their memories of the Disney Studio's golden days. Goldie Hawn has a cute cameo role as the Giggling Girl.

I've been searching for this title for years! I watched it when I was younger and loved it. I've been hoping they would release it on DVD for quite some time now. I always enjoy the music. One of my favorites is '`Bout time.'

This is a great show. It has been years since I have seen this show. It is so good. I live in North Dakota and it takes place in North Dakota during an election year. It is a very interesting fun movie and I think everyone should see it.

This movie has wonderful songs, a great performance by Walter Brennan (his 'Man for the Time' rap is truly memorable) and is just fun to watch. Check out the dance scene at the end and watch for the Giggly Girl. It is also quite topical even now. Truly entertaining for the whole family.
