Fox has issued a decent disc for a midrange price with this DVD edition of The Seven-Ups. Viewers are given the choice of a pan-and-scan or letterboxed transfer; both look fine, but the widescreen version is the obvious winner, capturing the film's gritty look and earthy color palette with plenty of crisp detail. Stereo and mono mixes are offered on the disc and both produce a solid, distortion-free soundtrack for the viewer. In terms of extras, the disc offers "Anatomy of a Chase," a vintage featurette that details how the film's chase centerpiece was staged and also offers some interesting behind-the-scenes footage. Surprisingly, the disc lacks a trailer. Fans of the film might have wanted a few more extras, but overall this is a fine disc for the price tag. As a result, The Seven-Ups can easily be recommended to fans of vintage cop movies.
