Disney's Toy Story and Toy Story 2 DVD set presents both films with impressive 1.77:1 widescreen anamorphic transfers. Both display wonderful lush colors and clearly showcase Pixar's inventive computer animation. The Toy Story 2 disc also offers the option of choosing a 1.33:1 full-frame version of the film. While this variation looks decent, it falls short of its widescreen counterpart. Both movies also contain THX-certified 5.1-channel Dolby Digital audio tracks that bring the music and sounds to life in a powerful manner. While neither one is groundbreaking, they both provide clear sounds and fail to distract in any way. The highlight of the extra features is a collection of creative "outtakes" from the production of Toy Story 2. They show the animated figures missing lines, acting clumsy, and playing practical jokes on each other, which leads to plenty of silliness. This disc also contains Luxo Jr., an Academy award-nominated short film that goes back to 1986. This extremely brief feature showcases the lamps that play prominently in the Pixar logo. There are also six Disney previews here, including trailers for The Emperor's New Groove, Fantasia 2000, and Monsters, Inc. The Toy Story DVD includes Tin Toy, a clever animated short that has a baby chasing around a tiny toy soldier. This is the only supplement on this disc.
