Overview

Illustrated by the beloved creator of Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel, The Little House, and Katy and the Big Snow, here is a delightful version of the tale that boys and girls have loved for centuries. The Emperor himself, his court, and his clothes—or lack of them—are ridiculous as only the master storyteller Hans Christian Andersen can make them. Fifty-five years ago, Virginia Lee Burton added to this tale of fun her own irrepressible humor in pictures and design. This brilliant new edition features Burton’s original illustrations photographed anew, freshly exhibiting her lively concoction of remarkable spirit and beauty.

About the Author

Virginia Lee Burton (1909-1968) was the talented author and illustrator of some of the most enduring books ever written for children. The winner of the 1942 Caldecott Medal for THE LITTLE HOUSE, Burton's books include heroes and happy endings, lively illustrations, and a dash of nostalgia. She lived with her two sons, Aristides and Michael, and her husband George Demetrios, the sculptor, in a section of Gloucester, Massachusetts, called Folly Cove. Here she taught a class in design and from it emerged the Folly Cove designers, a group of internationally known professional artisans. She is the author of many classic children's picture books, including MIKE MULLIGAN AND HIS STEAM SHOVEL and KATY AND THE BIG SNOW.

This is the classic Hans Christian Anderson story of a man whose foolish pride gets the best of him. With bright, vivid illustrations, kids love this version.

Emperor¿s New Clothes by Hans Christian AndersenThis fantasy story is about two rascal¿s trying to make some money by making the Emperor some new clothes. The only problem with the clothes is they are an ¿invisible suit¿. The invisible suit is definitely invisible to everyone including the Emperor¿s subjects who realize very quickly the invisible suit is not suit at all the Emperor is naked! I think this story is very amusing! I think the rascals are pretty tricky to convince the emperor that invisible clothes are the style. It is also funny what the subjects have to say about the emperor¿s clothes.I would recommend this book for Kindergarten to 2nd grade students. The students will laugh at the humor of the emperor¿s new clothes. I would ask the students to design some real clothes for what they think the emperor should wear.
