I loved AFTERLIGHT and was not so into EVERDARK but EVENTIDE got me a little more excited about the future of the Dark Ink Chronicles series. EVERDARK ended on a bit of a cliffhanger and EVENTIDE picks up exactly where it left off. I have always liked Riley. She is funky, is comfortable in her own skin and loves and protects those close to her. She is still struggling with the venom coursing through her body and book 3 deals with her losing chunks of time and not knowing what she is doing. She ends up in the hands of those she never would have thought she would be getting help from. Eli is there throughout it all but Riley does a lot of hiding and pushing him away because she doesn't want to admit there is a problem. The pacing was pretty slow and even though things happen there wasn't a lot put into the story as a whole. When all the stuff with Riley is finally out in the open at the end of the book is where I really felt the series was picking up again. Some new characters are thrown into the mix and I feel that a lot of great things will come of their arrival in future books. There isn't a lot of action in EVENTIDE but it ends on a note that promises a lot in the future. I love Eli and Riley together and when Riley was in her right mind their relationship was full of hotness. I have liked the settings of all the books and EVENTIDE kept with that. For those disappointing in book 2 I think you will start to get a little more into the series again if you give it another chance.

Review courtesy of All Things Urban FantasyThe Dark Ink Chronicles is a series that started out edgy and oh so cool featuring a tattooed rocker protagonist, a steamy Southern setting, and a deliciously dangerous love interest. The sequel was a tad disappointing with a much slower pace and not as much character development as I was hoping for. Sadly, EVENTIDE, the latest installment, is even more of a let down. Where do I start? EVENTIDE feels like a rush job. Not the pacing, which is sluggish at best, but it just doesn¿t feel like anyone involved with this book cared enough to make it good. Nearly every scene feels mechanical and completely lacking in emotion. When we last saw Riley, she was trying to adapt to her new abilities or Tendencies after surviving a vampire bite. Dark urges and blackouts begin to plague her and she starts to have out of body experiences where she slips into the minds/past of others. She does this a lot. Like half the book is made up of these various out of body scenes. It felt like the entire middle of the book was one long chapter stuck on repeat. Riley would fall asleep, have an out of body experience, Eli would shake her awake and say the exact same thing to her and get all anxious about the changes happening to her, Riley would dismiss his concerns, and then the whole thing would repeat. When that cycle finally changed, it was almost like the author was trying to completely change her series and set up an entirely new premise for future books involving Riley leaving behind Savannah and her tattoo parlor to join WUP, Worldwide Unexplained Phenomenon in Scotland which is described as a detective/police organization that hunts demons and other evil creatures (you can read a full description about this next book titled BLACK FALLEN on the authors website). It was such a massive departure that I don¿t even know what to think. Why not just put this series out of it¿s misery and start fresh, as opposed to tearing down and restructuring this one? I don¿t get it. I¿ve read other series which stumble and lose steam as they go along, but none more grievous of late than The Dark Ink Chronicles. AFTERLIGHT was a great book, and I highly recommend it as a standalone, but EVERDARK and especially EVENTIDE just didn¿t live up to the debut and what should have been a great series.Sexual Content:Scenes of sensuality. One sex scene

Riley Poe is tattoo artist with vampiric tendencies. Something is happening to Riley that nobody expects least of all her. She keeps losing time, can't remember what she's doing from one moment to the next, and her personality is changing from her bright cheerful self to mean spirited and uncaring person. Seth, Nyx, and Eli are all worried about Riley but she swears that she's fine and nothing is wrong with her. Victorian Arcos realizes that something is really wrong with Riley and tries to get Eli to see it but only realizes it too late. Only one person can help Riley now~Julian Arcos. Riley goes thru two quickenings and now carries three strigoi vampire venom along with her unusual blood. Valerian Arcos is in hiding just waiting for Riley. Riley gets an unusual offer to join Worldwide Unexplained Phenomena (WUP). WUP is headed up by Jake Andorra. He believes that Riley can be great asset to the group and wants her to seriously think about joining. What new changes can Riley expect? Will she consider joining WUP? What are Victorian's feelings for Riley? Where is Valerian hiding? Your answers await you in Eventide. This book series just keeps getting better. Riley and company continue to face new challenges. Riley continues to be kickass character. I really want to see where this WUP storyline goes. Looking forward to the next installment.

...but not her best. The first two were extremely good, this one seemed to take the story a bit slower. Wasn't action packed and toward the end focused on several other characters, and their pointless histories, instead of just ending the story.

This installment of the Dark Ink Chronicles was a bit odd. For the most part, it seemed like the close of the series; however, the author then tossed in a bunch of new people with confusing back stories who added nothing to the current story line. Clearly, she was setting the stage for future Dark Ink or spin-off novels, but the execution was clumsy. One of the things I do enjoy about this series is that Riley Poe is not the typical goody-goody innocent that we usually see. She is a strong woman who has overcome her own shady past, and built a good life and surrogate family for herself and her younger brother, Seth.

Ok, let me start by saying that I have enjoyed this series. They have been action packed with a little romance as well. I also love that there is a 'cast' of characters not just one or two. Ok, with that being said, this book (#3) was REALLY slow. It was alot of talking in her head (the main character) for most of the book. It somewhat got on my nerves to where I found myself skimming to get to the interactions with other characters. I only gave it three stars because I like the rest of the series. The book did pick up toward the end, but it wasn't that far from the end. I will add though, that I was really happy with the ending.
