This book was assigned summer 2008 reading for my soon-to-be 7th grader. The book report was due on the first day of school. He enjoyed it and so did I. We are now reading "Max the Mighty,' the sequel to "Freak the Mighty."Read on.If you know a kid who is a little different, may be has a learning disability, this is a great book for him or her.If you know a kid who thinks everybody is the same and his or her viewpoint is all that matters, this is a good book. for him or her.If you know someone who wants to laugh and cry while they read. Get lost in the story and not wonder how many pages it is, this a good book for him or her.

This book is wonderful! I read it with my fifth grade students as a read aloud as they all read along in their own books. There are many different topics and lessons that can be used in this book. In addition, I used this book for a realistic fiction unit and paired it with our realistic fiction writing piece. This book is funny, because it is from the point of view from an eighth grade student. The students loved reading a book from this point of view. Not only is this book hilarious, but it is touching, serious and deals with real life situations that many urban children can relate to. In the end, the students and I loved this book and highly recommend it to students aged 10 and up. It was a wonderful book!!!!!

Freak the Mighty is a story about a colossal boy named Maxwell meeting a really smart kid, whose name is Kevin Avery, who loves stories about King Arthurs and the Knights of the Round Table. Together, they go on quests and do stuff like they would in Camelot. They go on quest together, like their first quest, they had rescue a woman’s purse and return it to her. Kevin and Maxwell, or Freak the Mighty, goes on many different quests in the story. There are a lot of times that I laughed when I read this book, and there were some sad parts. Also, during one of the climatic parts, it gets a bit shocking. I learned the truth of stuff that had happened before the book started. I was a bit saddened at the end when, well, you should read the book for yourself to find out. Overall, I do really like the book. Once I had gotten to the rising action part, I couldn’t stop reading. I would defiantly recommend this novel to anyone who likes stories that are as good as this one is.

In answer to the question about freaks death, assuming u mean how he died, he had marquio syndrome. His insides were growing 2 fast 4 his outsides. Imagine your insides growing bigger than your outsides. It would probably kill u or at least paralize u. It killed freak.

Freak the Might by Rodman Philbrick The introduction of this particular story doesn't necessarily give the whole idea of the theme of the book . It kind of dives immediately into the story about these two friends that over come disadvantages. Freak is a little boy that has Morquio. His real name is Kevin and has a friend named Maxwell and he has dyslexia. The reason why they became friends was because they were always getting picked on at school. Maxwell's dad is in jail because he did something bad. Maxwell lives with is grandparents Grim and Gram. The characters are Maxwell, Kevin, Fair Gwen, Grim, Gram, and Maxwell's dad. It is about two boys with disadvantages and something big happens at about the end of the story. The setting is in a little town. The theme is in an old city. The writing is fiction. Again Freak is a little boy with a disease and his friend Maxwell has dyslexia. Maxwell and Freak became friends because they got made fun of. They both help each other out. Again this book is good for little kids and a book to maybe start a book club. The reason why I liked this book was because it was pretty interesting. There were some parts I was really wanting to figure out what happened before it happened. Another reason why I liked the story was because I was on the edge of my seat. I liked the book more in 6th grade rather than junior high. Review by Adam Romano

This book is amazing. It will leave you crying. It will make you smile. It will make you laugh. This is the best book i have ever read. It is about a boy named Max and he is 5'10" and he meets this boy named Kevin (Freak). They become best friends and can't get away from each other. People make fun of them but they move on. Then it's Kevin's birthday party. And a fatal accident occurs. You have to read it to get more details. This book made my day and will teach you lessons. It taught me lessons. To not make fun of people because they might come back in a worse way. If you are having problems in life, read this book. It will make you feel either better or worse about yourself. By, Omar P.

I didn't know there was a book and after reading it, it's pretty good. There are some scenes that are in the film and others that were left out or rearranged differently. Usually the book is better but I like the movie more. Don't let that stop you from reading the book though, it explains more things that the film. Overall both the book and film are worth checking out.

Wonderful, heartwarming story of opposites attracting and finding some common ground. The main characters reflect the atmosphere of schools and friendships today. Wonderful, wonderful story. I used this story as a Readers theater piece.

The book Freak the Mighty is about a tall kid named Max who befriends a genius named Kevin who has Morquio Syndrom. They go on many adventures, which are really just walks all over their town with Freak (Kevin) riding on Mighty's (Max's) shoulders. They run into trouble mulitiple times. For example, Max's dad, Kenny Kane, who is in prison for killing Max's mother, gets out of prison on parole and kidnaps Max. The book was well written and uses a lot of figurative language. Rodman Philbrick creates characters with complicated pasts that many kids have. The plot of the story is a little unlikely, but it could happen. Also, it's very original. The setting is in a city that is growing like any other city. I would recommind this book to anyone.

Max and Kevin are two completely opposite kids who become friends and make the story of Freak The Mighty come alive. The plot was clever. A physicaly disabled teenage boy, moves next to a huge teenage boy, and they go on adventures together, and get in trouble with Max's murderous father. The setting fit the story well. They start off in the summer, that's when Max and Kevin meet, and that's when they do most of their adventures, which makes sense. All the main characters were well described. I could really invision them as I read, which helped me get into the book. The pacing was a little fast. It seemed to be over as fast as it started. Kevin, though he was a very tiny, and physicaly disabled boy, seemed to stand up for himself better than Max did, who was a huge kid. That helped show that just because you look a certain way doesn't mean people should judge you, because you could be way different than they think.

Freak the Mighty
By: Rodman Philbrick

In the book Freak the Mighty, their are two protagoists. Max the first character is enormous and he also thinks he is stupid. Kevin is the second character, he ia a midget, and Max and him become friends. Kevin taught Max intelligent words. Max began to realize that he was not stupid and he could learn. Kevin's problem was he wanted to be a normal human size. Will Kevin get the surgery? Or will he appreciate the size he is?

The theme is about a true friendship.

I liked this story because it had toss and turns that you wouldn't expect!

I can connect to this story because I myself had a surgery before ans I saw a movie called Old Yeller, a movie about a true friendship just like this story.

I've never really read a book quite like this before.

The setting in in a city and the time is unknown.
