Experience the epic start of 2018's must-read YA fantasy series in this 4 chapter sampler featuring two fiercely independent young women, centuries apart, who hold the power to save their world...or doom it.
When assassins ambush her best friend, Rielle Dardenne risks everything to save him, exposing herself as one of a pair of prophesied queens: a queen of light, and a queen of blood. To prove she is the Sun Queen, Rielle must endure seven elemental magic trials. If she fails, she will be executed...unless the trials kill her first.
One thousand years later, the legend of Queen Rielle is a fairy tale to Eliana Ferracora. A bounty hunter for the Undying Empire, Eliana believes herself untouchable—until her mother vanishes. To find her, Eliana joins a rebel captain and discovers that the evil at the empire's heart is more terrible than she ever imagined.
As Rielle and Eliana fight in a cosmic war that spans millennia, their stories intersect, and the shocking connections between them ultimately determine the fate of their world—and of each other.

Well, dear reader, it's 5/22/2018, release date of FURYBORN by Claire Legrand. First, I must reveal that I won a free copy of FURYBORN from leaving a First Impression on BookishFirst. However, a gratis book does not necessarily equal a good book, worthy of recommendation, so I remain unbiased. Second, this will not be a review where every character and plot nuance is dissected and laid bare to the point where you, dear reader, conclude that actually reading the book is now a waste of time. Be advised that this is a book with one of the most irresistible opening lines possible: "The Queen stopped screaming just after midnight"--- who is the Queen? ---why was she screaming? --- why did she stop screaming? Yes, this is a lengthy and involved book and you will have to pay attention. However, if you are not currently a fan of fantasy or young adult book genres, this could be the book that lures you to the dark side. [Calm down, you'll enjoy the experience.] FURYBORN is Book 1 of The Empirium Trilogy, and I can't wait for Book 2! As an aside, I attempted to leave a review of FURYBORN on Amazon today, and discovered that Amazon will not allow a book review to be left unless the reviewer has spent at least $50.00 on amazon.com within the past 12 months. I own a NOOK Tablet e-reader, which is supported by B&N, so my many book purchases are rarely made on amazon.com. Thanks, Amazon, for placing profit over honest book reviews.
Only getting to read the first few chapters, it's really difficult to say how the remainder of this book will go. While the premise is loud and in your face, a book like this requires perfect execution in order to get all of the details (not to mention 1000-year gapped storylines) in a row. The book literally starts out with a bang. A lot is happening and thrown at the reader, which is a little overwhelming. Reading some reviews on Furyborn, I know that it is NOT a Young Adult book and geared towards New Adult readers. That in and of itself also makes me leery to continue with it as New Adult books tend to be too focused on sexuality and explicit material. I'm not sure if I will end up picking up this book to finish or not.
