Mariah Carey was the bestselling female artist of the '90s, yet prior to the 2001 release of Glitter, the soundtrack to her much-touted feature film debut, the starlet suffered a physical and emotional breakdown -- reportedly due in part to the lackluster reception afforded the first single, "Loverboy." Well, Carey need not worry her pretty head any longer: Glitter, an homage to '80s dance and R&B grooves, is one her finest albums to date. In context -- the film is set in New York City's '80s club scene -- the Cameo-sampled "Loverboy" sounds more vibrant than it initially did on radio. Carey puts her stamp on other nostalgic tracks in her trademark five-octave-range fashion, including "Don't Stop (Funkin' 4 Jamaica)," an up-tempo reworking of the basement party classic "Funkin' for Jamaica" featuring energized rapper Mystikal; a DJ Clue-assisted remake of "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life," featuring Busta Rhymes and newcomer Fabolous; and a sassy version of Cherelle's "Didn't Mean to Turn You On," written in 1984 by Glitter's executive producers, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. The soundtrack isn't, however, completely retro. Carey gets into the mid-tempo groove with Ja Rule and Nate Dogg on the catchy "If We" and with Eric Benet on the provocative "Want You." And, of course, Glitter wouldn't be a Mariah Carey affair without a ballad -- or two or three. Here, the diva flexes her pipes on the poignant "Lead the Way," "Reflections (Care Enough)," and "Never Too Far." As much as these tearjerkers strain for sentiment, it's the disc's last slow jam that's the most telling. "Twister" ostensibly details the life of singer Billie Frank, Carey's character in the film, but the reflective lyrics mirror the songbird's own reality: "She was kind of fragile/And she had a lot to grapple.../Lord I pray she's found some peace." For Carey's sake, we certainly hope the same.

Mariah is amazing! She has soul, technique, and writing ability. What else do ya need!? This cd is awesome! All the songs are hot! Loverboy, the first single,is the weakest track! This cd is just great! Butterfly is and most likely will always be her BEST and most mature effort but this is no dissapointment! I'm glad she's back!

Not many people may like Mariah's new image BUT you have to keep in mind it is NOT what she wears or doesnt wear...its about the music so dont judge her on appearance judge her by her soulful voice ...The music speaks for itself!

Glitter was a very attractive name for an album quite like hers cause she does glitter if you think about it, alot more than ordinary people just like us. She's pretty, smart, and has a GREAT voice! she can carry a tune,or just GLITTER! The reason why that almum got so far was because of the title, i mean everyone knows her name, the title attracts people to it because everyone wants to buy the best albom and WOW this one GLITTERS!!!!

The Glitter soundtrack is impressive. She has not once been able to fail to impress me in anything she has done. She has talent in this business and not one person can say anything otherwise. This is her best work since Butterfly. Mariah is like a goddess of song with a voice that nobody can be compared to. Mariah's ballads are always a sweet song for my ears this is a must have for any true Mariah fan.

I am one of Mariah's biggest fan. Her music is very beautiful & inspirational. She is the greatest female artist of all time. Everyone who enjoys Glitter should purchase all of her other albums if you haven't already done so, you will know exactly what I am talking about. Mariah is #1!!!!!!!!!

Mariah has done it again. This Cd is wonderful and so is Mariah. She just keeps re-inventing herself over and over. Loverboy was all her songs mixed together if you listened closely. And this Cd is mixed with oldies and ballads and hip tunes. Mariah has stayed true to herself.

Her song ''Not too far'' in the soundtrack is my favorite. Mariah has a beautiful voice and I have always loved her music. When I would have a bad day, in my teenage years and as well as now, I would listen to her music and feel at ease. All of her music is the best that I have ever heard and am a fan for life. Listen to her music and you'll love it!

Mariah´s Glitter is just okay i can´t say it is her best work but i think she did a really good job on the ballads Lead The Way,Never Too Far and the 80´s poppy song Didn´t mean to turn you on written by Terry Lewis&Jimmy Jam in 1982.The soundtrack album is better than the movie the movie really suck. And all those guest rappers i think they made the album flopp like it did Mariah has a big 7 octav range and when she sings with rappers she just whispers and that is not DIVA LIKE.Mariah is like Celine Dion,Whitney Houston and Barbra Streisand and she should make more pop songs and Breathtaking ballads that she is known for. If You listen closely to Mariah with rappers you know if she would sing high notes the guest star rapper, you wouldn´t hear him sing beside her because of her big pipes that voice of hers is just so beautiful and she really can make every one cry the Butterfly song is awesome from the Butterfly album i´d never heard her belt out like that or Without you,Hero and on the Merry Christmas album she really gives everything she got and Glitter isn´t but you can hear her true self in the song of Lead The way.

Everyone, I encourage you to purchase this CD. Even people that are not really Mariah fans are buzzing about the music. Because this is a soundtrack as well as an album, Mariah decided to include some 80's style remakes but they have pure 90's flavor on the CD. Hits like ''Last Night a DJ Saved My Life'' and ''Dont Stop'' are going to be played constantly on your CD player. For those who like ballads songs like ''Lead the Way'' and ''Reflections'' are reminicent of Mariah's early years. Basically, there is something for everyone on this CD (uptempos, mid-tempos, ballads). Very good Mariah CD!

This album is fantastic, with '80s style flavor and grooves. It's ballads, dance tunes, melodic personals and slow jams keep me listening to it whenever I can. The best tracks are #2, #3, #4, #7, #8, and #10. Buy it today!

What can i say about this except BAD BAD BAD this album is aweful and i don´t like anything on this album except the two ballads Lead The Way and Never Too Far are the only good songs on this 11 track album.I Don´t recommend this album it´s the worst of all her albums.Buy instead albums with Celine Dion or Mariah´s older albums and the newest realize from Mariah Charmbracelet is much better than both Glitter and Rainbow buy that album it shows us that maybe Mariah is back but Charmbracelet isn´t all good though.Mariah´s collaborators on this album are as Jimmy Jam&Terry Lewis and they just do aweful songs with her though the ballad Never Too Far isn´t all bad it´s better than the other songs they did with her on this album,Walter Afanasieff did 1 song Lead The Way and that song is very nice but not the best work they have done together and that´s strange.Others are as DJ Clue&Ken Duro,Damizza,Clark Kent and Rick James.

Mariah's new album Glitter is the best. I just listened to a preview of the Glitter album and it blew me away. She is the greatest singer/song writer/producer/director ever. Which is why all but 1 of her #1 songs were written or co-written by her. The songs on Glitter fit the movie perfectly. She deserves more credit then what the critics and media say about Mariah and her talent. No matter what all her fans and even non fans know that Mariah's music is the best and will always and be treasured as a living legend.

Mariah does what she does best, she writes great lyrics, produces hot beats and pays homage to the 80s in this nearly perfect record. Unfortunately the movie wasn't so great. My favorites on the album are Loverboy, Want you, Lead the way and the extremely poigant Twister. MAriah relays alot of her early experience with racism in this song (Twister) and conveys a vunerablity that she's never really done before. An excellent song that compliments an excellent record.
