God Gave Us Christmas by Lisa Tawn Bergren & illustrated by David Hohn is a holiday addition to the Little Cub series. Mia's review: I love Christmas! I love God too! and I love this book! My favorite part was when Mama Bear was tickling Little Cub, because it shows without speaking how God loves us. The Northern Lights are so pretty in this whole book! Now my review: The artwork in this volume is truly stellar bringing every scene to life. Mama Bear takes Little Cub on a journey to show him God and the real meaning of Christmas. Mama Bear keeps the focus on God rather than Santa without dismissing the icon. Bergren & Hohn use nature to demonstrate God's love and presence in the world in a way that young readers can easily understand. A top notch addition to the series.

Whenever I search for a children's book dealing with Christmas time, it's always a challenge and question on whether or not to deal with a book about Santa or about Jesus. This wonderful little treasure from Lisa's God Gave Us series makes it where there is not a choice, but just truth. Here, Mama takes time to show Little Cub in detailed images why and how God gave us Christmas and intertwines how Santa fits into the picture. I love the poetry of the prose and the pictures are fabulous and colors are wonderful to look at. I truly enjoyed sharing this story with my daughter and look forward to reading it more and more in the years to come and highly recommend it!

"God Gave Us Christmas" by Lisa Tawn Bergren is another installment in the "God Gave Us" series - this one focuses on the Christmas holiday and what it really means. In this book, Little Cub asks his parents who invented Christmas. What I thought was nice about this book was that in a few instances, Little Cub asks about Santa, for example, he asks Mama if Santa invented Christmas. Mama's response was the God invented Christmas. I thought it was nice to debunk some of the importance of Santa Claus and teach children to focus more on the true meaning of Christmas. Mama and Little Cub go on a trip to find God, and discover how he invented Christmas. Through their adventures, Mama shows Little Cub how God is at work, and tells him all about Jesus coming to Earth. For example, at night, they set up a campsite and as they watch beautiful lights in the sky, Mama tells Little Cub how God sent Jesus to be the light of the world. I thought this book was very cute, and age appropriate. It's a great way to help young children focus on Jesus' birth and the holiday season, rather than Santa Claus and presents. My four year old loved it, and I thought it made a great addition to bedtime reading around the holiday. I would recommend this book for ages 3 and up.

I love this book and the message that it sends to kids. Christmas is so much more about God than Santa but Santa gets a lot more of the spotlight. I love that this book reminds kids about the REAL meaning of Christmas.

Book review: God Gave Us Christmas This is an adorable book.  My husband, 2 year old daughter, and I have been reading it each day as a part of Advent activities.  My daughter loves it, and asks to hear the story repeatedly.  The pictures are cute.  The story has a great message about why we celebrate Christmas. I wish the author had used the term "gift" instead of "present" in regards to Jesus, since "present" Implies a requirement vs. a gift being from the heart.  Though this is a minor detail, not really a true problem.  I do have a little trouble reading the black text on some of the pages.  At the end of the book, white text was used on a colorful background and was much easier to read. Overall, this is a great story to share with young children. “Santa Claus reminds us about many good things like generosity and care. But it is God and Jesus that we celebrate most come Christmas. We always want to thank God for giving us Christmas.” My kids currently do not have a single book on their shelves, or our “Christmas Book Basket” sitting out in our living room, that has a single word about Santa.  For this one, though, I’ll make an exception.  One of the things that I liked best about this sweet children’s picture book was the way that the characters — a family of bears (my one-year-old kept insisting they were doggies) — dealt with the issue of Santa (see quote above), by drawing attention to the spirit of generosity that he embodies, while pointing back around to Christ. Like the other “God Gave Us…” books, this one takes places as a conversation between Little Bear and her Mama Bear as they explore the world God created and make connections about how nature declares who God is.  Some of these analogies, about God being a light in darkness or his incarnation in the world being like a flower blooming in spring, may well go over young reader’s heads, but the musical cadences would make this a wonderful bedtime book, and the overarching theme is abundantly clear: Christmas is all about God and what He has done for us.

Using the beauty of nature, Mama Bear explains how God reveals himself everywhere through his creation. When the northern lights brighten the sky, Little Cub learns that God sent Jesus to be the light of the world. This beautifully illustrated story is a unique way to learn about Christmas. In my home, God Gave Us Christmas will go into the special basket of books we get out every year and enjoy during the holiday season.

"God Gave Us Christmas" would make a wonderful book this Christmas for a child on your list. Explaining the heart of Christmas in beautiful pictures and gentle words, Mama Bear and Little Cub take an journey to realize the best gift of Christmas - Jesus. My almost 3 year old really enjoyed these books, and her older brothers, 7 & 10, did as well. Lisa's whole set of books would be worth owning. Timeless messages for our children.

In God Gave Us Christmas, Little Cub asks Mama who invented Christmas. Mama uses that question to take time to tell Little Cub about God sending Jesus and uses creation to show some characteristics of God. I thought this story was sweet and I think Bergren did a good job of teaching about Jesus in otheraspects besides only focusing on the manger. The illustrations are beautiful, too.

The children's book God Gave Us Christmas, written by Lisa Tawn Bergen with art by David Hohn, is a great installment in the "God Gave Us" series. In this book Mama takes her Little Cub and yours on a journey to find God. When Little Cub asks Mama if they can go find Santa she quickly shifts the Christmas focus to whom it belongs, God. She teaches Little Cub that Santa reminds us of many good things but come Christmas it is Jesus that we celebrate. You will learn from Mama that Jesus would have come if only for you, even it was for only someone you find very mean and do not like much at all. Bergen answers hard questions in such an easy way; you will wonder why you didn't think of answering in such a way. You will find her book a sure blessing the moment your little one asks you the same questions that Little Cub asks, when all you have to do is sit down and spend time reading a book together! The illustrations beautifully enhance the story. I highly recommend this book for you to share with the little one in your life.

I recently had the chance to read God Gave Us Love and God Gave Us Christmas written by Lisa Tawn Bergren thanks to the WaterBrook Multnomah (http://waterbrookmultnomah.com/) Blogging for Books program. The story lines of these books are so precious. Little Cub is inquisitive and asks question about life and what is going on around him. What a great premise for a book! As Little Cub is asking questions and getting answers, I can picturing a child's minds starting to think and pondering some things for themselves. These stories were both founded on a firm foundation of God and helped the reader get to know Him a little bit better. These books are good stories and beautiful illustrations that will keep a child's attention, even older ones! These would make great gifts for the children in your life! Thanks to WaterBrook Multnomah for sending me copies to review!

It was a very good way of sharing the real reason for Christmas with children. A very good 'read aloud' book, that talks about the birth of the greatest gift of all, Jesus.

I loved the illustrations and the way the Bear family presented santa to their child. God Gave us Christmas, takes us to the manager, but also to the glory God created in the world. The book is on my Books to Buy Children List!

This story is perfect for teaching the true meaning of Christmas (God and Jesus), and still is able to bring in the fact that although we give and receive other presents, Jesus is the best present of all. A truly wonderful story with a great lesson that isn't overbearingly religious. The characters and pictures are cute, too! Who doesn't love polar bears?
