Grease Is the Word: Boppin' Tunes from the Movie

CD

Overview

Released to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the film, Rhino's Grease Is the Word: Boppin' Tunes from the Movie presents 17 tracks from film re-recorded by stars of the era in which it was supposed to take place. '50s icons Lou Christie, Darlene Love, Lesley Gore, and Freddy "Boom-Boom" Cannon do their best to sound like they're 18 again, and the "burger stand" production does give an authentic feel to the project, but the songs from Grease, despite their occasional forays into disco and late-'70s pop
ock are so ingrained into American pop culture that these remakes feel forced and disingenuous. In answer to the press release that asks "Ever wonder what the music from Grease would have sounded like if it had actually been recorded in the '50s by '50s recording stars?" Nope, Olivia and John will do just fine, thank you very much.
