For nearly four decades, Kate Pierson has been one of the vocalists with America's leading new wave party band, the B-52s, but in 2015 she revealed a new side of her musical personality with her long-awaited solo debut. On Guitars and Microphones, Pierson still delivers a dance-friendly sound on tunes like "Time Wave Zero," "Bring Your Arms," and "Crush Me with Your Love," but she also reveals an unexpectedly contemplative side on numbers like "Mister Sister" (the story of a young boy who, Pierson says, is "on the gender journey spectrum"), "Pulls You Under" (about a friend in trouble), and "Bottoms Up" (concerning the difficulties of addiction). Produced in part by Sia (who also co-wrote all but one song), Guitars and Microphones shows Pierson's voice is as strong as ever, and these often personal, always heartfelt songs reveal a new and powerful facet of her musical personality.

Wow! Kate Pierson has finally put out her first solo collection and its a awesome bunch of tunes with so much energy, punch and passion, open up your windows, let the summer rush in! Full of pulsing beats (with the help of exe producer SIA, GUITARS AND MICHROPHONES starts out with girl power celebration of "Throwing down the roses" and never looks back.. Melodies, girl group harmonies, choruses and so many unexpected brilliant low key touches make this collection stand out. Its been a long time since I've heard music so interesting. Many of these tunes and their cosmic connections feel right at home with many of your B-52s favorites, Kate is still a stunning voice for all ages, just a sublime slice of pop music with a side of adventure, just check out the word play on this one, fresh ideas bounce off of everything, she's brought in friends(Nick Valensi from the Strokes)"Bottoms Up" to give this one just the right amount of production but never overbearing, I love the title cut "Guitars and Microphones" with its own personal growing up story, so visual, this would make a great video and single, "Crush me with your love" is another tale of lovers bliss, "Bottoms Up" has some nice guitar (Valensi) and a rock vibe that like many of these cuts gives the collection its diversity and charm. Many of these cuts also feature some out space nod and "Time way Zero" and "Matrix" have some killer words & music, "Mister Sister", the first single, had some controversy going on but its actually a very clever look in the mirror to all those not living the life they would feel more themselves in. "Bring your arms" finds Kate and co tackling saving baby turtles on the beach, a hippy/trippy gem with great music to move this along. "Wolves" is another love song, told only the way Kate can. "Pulls you under" is a very different kind of torch song but again with compelling music. Partner Monica Coleman has made an awesome cover for this collection an videos. Guitars and Microphones is a repeat listening experience, bouncy, full of off the wall spirit and right up their with the best of any B-52s music and that's pretty impressive! rating "A"
