The New York Times bestselling aftermath of Halo: Combat Evolved featuring the Master Chief—part of the expanded universe based on the award-winning video game series!

2552. The theocratic military alliance known as the Covenant is showing no mercy as it continues to assault every human world it encounters, but in the way lies humanity’s greatest champion, the super-soldier Spartan John-117—the Master Chief. Together with his AI companion Cortana and the last remaining Spartans, the galaxy-spanning fight rages on two fronts following the destruction of the human military stronghold Reach by Covenant forces and the mysterious artificial ringworld known as “Halo” at the hands of the Master Chief.

One faction—a squad of Spartans lead by Blue Team’s Fred-104 and Kelly-087—is trapped on the glassed surface of Reach, the only planet they’ve ever known as home. And beneath this ruined world, Dr. Catherine Halsey has discovered an ancient secret...one that could alter the course of the war. Meanwhile, the Master Chief and Cortana lead a second group toward a gathering of Covenant warships, as the United Nations Space Command’s worst nightmare has finally come true: the Covenant has discovered the location of Earth and is forming a massive fleet to utterly destroy it, as well as all who oppose the indomitable will of the Prophets...

Im a big fan of the halo series and this book is a really good sequel to "the fall of reach" and "the flood". I would highly recomend this book to anyone that likes action. The book is very discriptive and really puts you in the scene. It kept me turning the pages. When i finally finished, i was deeply impressed with the story line. The author really makes each character in this book specail in some shape or form... master chief isnt the only main character. EVERY SINGLE character that is introduced whether good or bad, the author gives the man, woman, or alien feeling and life. Its like watching a movie in your head. Over all... this book is a must have

Thats because reach is totally inacurate. Halsey didnt find out about spartan IIIs until she was fixin up Kelly. No spartan 3 escorted her to castle base. And halsey gave cortana to john, not noble six

One of the best books in the Halo Universe. Eric really has a way with creating characters and giving them "color" non of the two dimensional nonsense like other books. In my Opinion, this book is second only to The Ghost of Onyx (the next book in the series).

One of the best halo books I am reading is first strike by Eric Nylund. It is easy to read. There are some good fight seens. You can actually see it like a movie! It takes place on planet reach before it was glassed over. First strike and the fall of reach are my favorite books in the halo books series ever. There are no inappropriate parts.

A good book abot the events that lead up to Halo 2, but leaves a few unanswered questions.

This book shows the readers how the legendary master chief gets back to earth, after destroying one of the Halo rings. The First Strike is filled with action and space battles. This book also answers the question: Are there any spartan survivors on Reach?

After the destruction of the halo ring, Master chief is on a dangerous voyage home. The covenant forces are destroying UNSC held planets. Master Chief must go through constant patrols and fleets of ships. On the planet Reach the covenant forces are attacking the soldiers on the planet. The spartans are forced with a dangerous objective to destroy a covanant ship. Master Chief is rescueing people in the debris field of the halo ring. The forces on Reach counter attack and push the covenant forces back. This is a good book with lots of action. I like the halo story it goes along with the video games. The events are right after Halo 1. Master Chief is a great charicter. He is a very dark person and has little emotions. The book has great action scenes throughout the book. I liked the book and recommend it. The book is great for people who enjoy sci fi aciton.
