Overview

Hans Christian Andersen is one of the world's most popular storytellers, and his fairy tales are among the best-loved works of literature. Readers the world over know his poignant tale of "The Little Mermaid," who sacrifices everything for love, and "The Steadfast Tin Soldier," whose affection for a paper ballerina is symbolized by his transformation into a small tin heart. Several of Andersen's stories are so well known—among them "The Emperor's New Clothes" and "The Ugly Duckling"—that their titles alone have become meaningful figures of speech. Hans Christian Andersen: Classic Fairy Tales collects 100 of Andersen's incomparable fairy tales and stories, among them "Thumbelina," "The Little Match Girl," "The Princess and the Pea," "The Red Shoes," "The Wild Swans," and his fantasy masterpiece, "The Snow-Queen." The book is abundantly illustrated with more than 100 hundred drawings and color plates by Dugald Stewart Walker and Hans Tegner, two of Andersen's best-known illustrators. Hans Christian Andersen: Classic Fairy Tales is one of Barnes & Noble's leatherbound classics. Each volume features authoritative texts by the world's greatest authors in exquisitely designed bonded leather bindings with distinctive gilt edging and an attractive silk-ribbon bookmark. Decorative, durable, and collectible, these books offer hours of pleasure to readers young and old and are an indispensible cornerstone for every home library.

Only warning like Brother Grimm's some stories might be TOO much for little kids, The Storks is a GOOD one to avoid until the a bit older for GOOD reason. Look up the store and you under stand why. Again, like Grimm's book may it be PC due to it time he live end. However still great book and parent should add to collections

The book is beautiful and so are the illustrations. I like Hans Christian Andersen fairy tales much better than Grimm's and I was especially looking for The Snow Queen, which this collection has. My niece is in love with Frozen, as are lots of people, and I thought this would be a great way for her to expand her love of fairy tales. One day, I told her the stories from about 10 Disney movies and some of the older versions of the fairy tales they are based off of and she was so captivated with them I knew this would be a great idea.

This complete collection is beautifully bound. The book is illustrated, just not on every single page. They are scattered every few pages. If you love classic fairy tales this is definitely worth having.

This book has been a welcome addition to the library I am building of leather bound books, and very old editions, I love them, there is nothing like holding a well done book, and a touch of class.

Terrible book. I bought hoping to read to my girls at night and many of the stories are quite morbid. Huge waste of money. The book does have a beautiful cover but the literature is terrible. Wish someone would have said something so I would have passed on it. Disappointment.

I have not purchased nor read this book.  I'm looking for a specific translation.  BN always manages to fail to indicate the translator.  Can't they fix this??
