Finally able to output content from my nook to the big screen. Format quality from the nook device is shown as exactly on the big screen. If device content is 240 or 480p it will show on the big screen as 240 or 480. Same seems to hold true for 720 and 1080. Works as I expected when purchasing this adapter.  Seems most magazines and the home screen of the nook is only 480p, but when I stream from HD content or upload my own 1080p movies, it is very impressive. Playing angry birds on the TV is also very enjoyable for my little cousins which is a plus.

I just hooked up my Nook HD+ to my 60" Sharp television and watched "The Avengers." The HDMI adapter worked very well. I like that hooking up a power source is optional; I chose not to and the movie played just fine with plenty of battery life left. This high definition movie was crystal clear on my TV and the sound was very good. At times I noticed a slight flutter between images when the camera would pan in a given direction, but it was almost undetectable. The HDMI adapter will also mirror your Nook. This is great if you're sharing photos, documents, or websites with a large crowd. I found the images to be very good; however, the rendering of small letters from an issue of Budget Travel magazine wasn't very good. But really, who's going to read a magazine on their 60" TV anyway!? I also played an audio book I had checked out from my local library through the Overdrive app (Adobe mp3 -- Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins) via the HDMI adapter and it worked very well with great sound. This would be handy if you're able to multi-task housework with audio books! It's unfortunate that it is bundled with its own HDMI cable as this undoubtedly let to the $39.95 price point... Many folks already have extra HDMI cables of their own and the cost of the converter alone would have been more attractive at around $20. Overall I'm very happy with the Nook HDMI converter and I would highly recommend it to anyone with a NOOK HD/HD+. I'm giving it 4 stars!

The resolution when viewing the nook hd+ home page or any of the nook hd+ screens appears to be 240p or maybe 480p. Tested on a new 50" plasma and a new 27" monitor. This output resolution is very bad for viewing a pdf or ppt slide. At times you can barely read the text. Oddly video looks very good, as you would expect when streaming SD or HD over the web. If you watch a youtube video, which can mix video and text on the same screen, the video will look fine but the text will look bad. There are no settings on the nook HD+ to change video quality.

The video quality is fine. I have viewed everything from movies to books to the home screen and menus on a very large screen, with no issues. True, when you are not watching HD video, there may be some loss of image sharpness, because you are increasing the image size, but this does not affect the readability of text. I had no trouble reading text on the screen as other reviewers have complained. (Also, if you want to read Nook books and magazines on a computer monitor, just use Nook for Web or the Nook for PC/Mac applications, as they intended. This adapter is not necessary for doing that.) Also, to the reviewers who complained about the fit of the adapter. i can't speak to how it works with all covers, but standard Nook covers sold by B&N (with maybe one or two exceptions—the Tasume Stand cover and the Swap-It cover) do not cover any part of the bottom edge, so you shouldn't need to remove the cover to use the adapter. The actual snugness of plug is a bit loose, since it is the same type of plug in the same socket as the charging cable, so it fits the same. I don't think one would expect it to snap it, as I certainly wouldn't want my charger to do so.

Just bought the adapter on Friday.  Works great with my HD+ although it drains the battery, but that issue wasn't a problem as there's a charging port on the adapter.

Works great with my Nook HD+. The only nitpick I can think of is when the adapter is plugged, the screen can't be flipped the other way horizontally. Depending on where the tablet sits, sometimes I need the adapter on the left side with the HDMI cable on the top portion. This was a problem with the 7" Nook HD. Because the HDMI cable was sticking out towards the bottom, we were unable to place it on a stand because it gets in the way. It has to be laid flat. Movies and playing old school emulator games are a blast. If cord length is a concern, consider buying a bluetooth mouse, so you can navigate from further away. A must have accessory and sets the Nook apart from most tablets on the market.

Okay, the people complaining about the cord....c'mon man.  If you want a longer cord go out and buy one.  The longer the HDMI cable the more it costs.  If your too lazy to get up or if you don't have a place to set your nook down it's not the products fault.  The resolution for movies is great.  The only thing that makes me upset is the fact that they developed cases where the nook has to be removed in order to fully seat the adapter.  The 360 stands do not have a big enough opening at the bottom and therefore you have to remove your nook in order to use the adapter.  I didn't wish this was so, but it is.  I'm not happy that they developed two products that came out at the same time but didn't make them compatible.  Other than that, I can use a different case I have and everything is fine.
Holderissue More than 1 year ago
As with dmgreen previously, the adapter will not fit securely with the Nook stand/rotational cover as the adapter is wider than the plastic holder cutout. One has to pop the Nook out of the holder in order to make the connection secure; the problem here is that the holder grasps the Nook so securely it is difficult to remove it. The cover's plastic holder needs to be redesigned to accomodate the adpater and a recall issued to those of us who have spent the combined $80 for both adapter and cover. Other than that, I was pleased with the output to my flatscreen tv.

I love this product. It lets me watch all the movies that I can buy, rent, or stream on my Nook directly on my TV. To my knowledge you can't do that with an ipad or other tablets. Now when we watch Netflix, we just plug the Nook into the TV and can watch whatever we want. It works really well and is very easy to do.

I brought this for my nook, when it wasn't on sale. It is a good item my one complaint is you can't keep your case on while connected, other than that it was a good investment. I might purchase a backup just incase I loose it.

Having major issues with the adapter staying attached to the Nook. One side slowly pops itself out just enough to disconnect from the TV. Have to keep pushing in and reconnecting. Very aggravating! It should have some type of small "snap" or lock-in-place mechanism. Not sure if it's my Nook connector or the adapter? Working with customer service, but outcome not finalized as of yet.

Adapter works fine if the content is high-resolution. As ghsolar found out, PDFs and other non-high resolution content will appear grainy on the big screen, but this is normal since the PDFs most likely were scanned at a lower dots-per-inch (DPI) to save file space. The lower resolution content is not an issue with the HDTV adapter. The issue with the content's resolution being supported by the content itself.

No show subtitles [CC] with Netflix.

The Nook HD+ just keeps getting better. This adapter works great for streaming movies to my television in great  1080 HD resolution. I was also able to play kids books in read to me mode on my 55" television to a group of children using this adapter...really great adapter. Finally, my adapter fits snug, I saw some reviews that stated it was a loose fit , I didn't that issue.

It works BUT the connector is way too loose..  Frequent jiggling required to make and keep signal connection.  Warrantee for return is only 14 days!  Almost like they know they sell junk!

Cord is too short. who sits only 6 foot from their TV? Cord should be 10 ft and 15 ft options.

Works well. I bought this because my Samsung TV doesn't support the newer video apps that Netflix requires; thus not all Netflix functions were working on my TV app such as individual family lists. However, this HDTV adapter will not show the subtitles on my TV--just the Nook itself, while playing a movie. If there is a fix, I'd like to know about it?

Great reception if you can get the adapter to stay steady. Unfortunately, it is very difficult and frustrating to get the HDMI adapter to stay completely connected to the nook. Therefore, I'm sad that I'll be returning the adapter and doing without streaming from nook to TV :( It's my hope that nook will design an adapter that latches on to the port in a way that will keep connection from being lost.

It's great to see stuff like YouTube videos and photos on the living room TV. When playing videos, it's smart enough to keep the user interface stuff on the Nook display while sending the video fullscren to my TV. One minor quirk I have noticed: sometimes it sends the sound to the HDMI device, and sometimes it sends the sound to the headphone jack.  I haven't figured out to determine where it will send the audio.  Fortunately I can easily connect my speakers to either, so I just use whichever is getting audio this time.

Great to be able to view presentations and movies on my big screen TV. However, I have to plug in the power/charging chord in order to get the adapter to work on my TV (LG 48"). Fortunately, any HDMI cable will work with the adapter, so I purchased a 12-foot HDMI cable to I can operate my Nook from my normal chair while watching the output on my TV. I would have given it 5 stars except for the need to use the charging cable while operating my Nook HD+ with this adapter.

will not connect to my TV. I don't know how every one else was able to get theirs to work but the kit would not work on any of the TVs in my home. I'm taking it back to walmart! Called customer service and just like someone else said they acted surprised that it was not working and kept placing me on hold to have me do things that I have already tried. So after I hung up on them I did some digging and found out that it does not work on Samsung TVs at all. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER B&N. oh and fix the jiggle charger thing I see that it a #1 issue around here.

This has to be the biggest rip-off. $40 plus $18 postage to the UK. Come on B&N, at least ship them in bulk to the UK so you can sell them in your UK store. What's the matter, you anti the UK?! Then don't sell your Nooks here!
Anonymous More than 1 year ago
I am profusely disappointed with this thing. It costs $40, more than 25% than the nook HD+ itself. And I have seen it some time ago at some stores on sale for less than $8! That is what I consider an unscrupulous rip off, and moreover it has been reported that it won't work as expected with many devices. BN, if you want to keep your customers happy and loyal you should not run this unethical tricks on us. I am very happy with my nook, but not quite with BN. Next time I will definitely go for a device with nonproprietary ports.
