History of World War II

by Marshall Cavendish Corporation

Overview

Prepared for a general readership, the complex history of World War II is presented in three volumes comprising short chapters, each focused on a single aspect of the war, including its events, politics, technology, victims, causes, and the varied aspects of its impact. Attention is given to the role of women and minorities, theaters of the war in remotest areas, and the effect of the war on the public. Coverage includes the war's origins and outbreak and the effects of WWI; the status of Europe, the US, Germany, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America between the wars and in the 1930s; events leading to US involvement; the events of the war itself, with chapters on each of its arenas; and the final stages of the war. Several appendices contain tables of the organization of the armies, the major naval combatants, and types of aircraft; a timeline; and several indexes. The volumes are heavily illustrated with b&w and color historic photos, as well as about 90 maps, and many inset boxes with specific events or biographies.
