For decades, schoolbooks have taught that Sumer was the cradle of civilization. Conventional scholarship has also held that Aryan civilization came to India by way of invasions from the north. But in this ground-breaking book, three renowned scholars show that there was no "Aryan invasion," and that India, not Sumer, was the cradle of civilized humanity. Through exploring the rich symbols, metaphors, and myths of the Vedas, this book also examines the wealth of India's spirituality and its relevance for today's world.

Well researched & superb overview of the world's greatest ancient civilization that still throbs. Hope that modern Indians have enough true wisdom, character & depth to preserve & protect this unique heritage, values & culture by not being blind imitators & Hindu-bashers. If they loose this soul of India, the future generations would never know the greatness of this heritage, & the world-at-large would be a poorer planet. Would not that be an ultimate betrayal & a tragedy?
This is the best introduction you will read to the Indian civilization. Well researched and superbly argued, it breaks new ground in synthezing recent scholarly findings.
