Indescribable: 100 Devotions about God & Science is a wonderful homeschool resource. It is not so much a devotional as it is a book that shares some interesting tidbits of science and then relates how God's indescribable imagination, creativity, and scripture relate to the science. This book is the very first thing that my kids ask for as we begin a school day. They look forward to it. They are excited about it! Breakdown Each lesson begins with a scripture verse. Giglio seems to primarily use the International Children's Bible (ICB). There are also lessons from the New International Version (NIV). I'm not happy with the use of the ICB. I truly don't believe that a child needs a simplified version. It is our responsibility as parents to teach our children about God. it can lead to wonderful places when you discuss the meaning of words and concepts that you encounter in the Bible that a child doesn't understand. A conversation about what Bible version is appropriate is hugely controversial, of this I am aware. This is a review, so I'm sharing my thoughts. My children and I have chosen to look up the scripture in our personal bibles, which happen to be the English Standard Version (ESV). The kids rotate who looks up the scripture of the day. This practice helps them to locate passages in their Bible and gives them an opportunity to read God's word out loud. The content of the lesson reports an interesting science fact and ties it into a relationship with God. Either the relation of God's creation and imagination to the fact or how that fact can lead towards building a greater relationship with Christ, The lesson ends with a very short one or two-sentence prayer relating to the material. Last but not least... my kid's favorite part, Be Amazed. Here you will find fascinating science facts, calls to action, etc. Fun information. I have found Indescribable: 100 Devotions about God & Science to be a jumping off point for some intimate conversations about God. and a whole lot of trips to the Internet to google about the scientific facts involved. I recommend that you get a copy to enjoy with your kids. You definitely don't need to be a homeschool family to learn and have fun with this devotional. If you are a homeschool parent I will be adding many links to my review of Indescribable on my blog for supplemental study. You can find my blog by searching for blessedandbewiledered (com). Disclosure... I am not an advocate of all things Louie Giglio. He has some theological beliefs that I do not find expressed in scripture. As a reviewer for FrontGate Media, I received a review copy of this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. My thanks to FrontGate Media, the author, and publisher.
Lately I have been searching for a good devotional to do with my son before bed, so I was excited to check out Louie Giglio's new book Indescribable: 100 Devotions about God and Science. When I got the book I realized it is still a bit beyond my son's comprehension level (it is more suited for elementary-aged kids), but nevertheless I was impressed with it. Each devotional includes a Bible verse(s), short reading, and a closing prayer. But that's not all! They also include a "Be Amazed" section with great scientific facts and photographs. It is the perfect length for a devotional time before bed or as a way to start the day as the kids eat breakfast. I look forward to diving into it more with my son when he gets a little older, and I recommend it for other families too! What a grand opportunity to lead your child to discover the indescribable wonders of the universe made by our wonderful Creator. And this new devotional book for kids will enable families together to embark on this wonderful journey of discovery. Every day's devotional is packed with wonderful scientific information and a brief scriptural reference that ties it together. The doors for discussion will swing wide open when families use this book for family devotions But it is not only a book that can be used in a family setting. Kids themselves will wonder at the awesome God that created our world as they read through these 100 devotions on their own. An opportunity to establish a habit of daily time with God. Seriously, my husband and I (we're grandparents and great-grandparents) have enjoyed reading some of these devotionals together and are quite frankly simply amazed at the material. It is so well presented and not too "little-kiddie-themed." I highly recommend this little book and know it will be a treasured addition to a child's or family's library. This is a hard cover book with thick, glossy and colorful pages. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this book - both the look/feel and the content! Giglio included 100 devotions that deal with God's creativity in creating the universe by including scientific findings, photography and adorable illustrations on subjects like space, planets, geology, oceans, all types of animals, our minds and more. Each devotion features a section with fascinating facts, hands-on activities and a closing prayer. The writing seems theologically sound, which makes sense because it's written by Louie Giglio. So many interesting facts about the universe God created. I recommend this book and can't wait to give it to my nephew! Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
