Overview

Commentators on globalization and information technology make much hay over the ability of the Internet age to erase identities. In contrast, this work, based on fieldwork amongst the Inuit, argues that Inuit people often embed their identities into their activities on the Web. Well aware that a contrary study could be made, the author seeks only to argue that while Internet technology could lead to changes of various aspects of culture such as language, social sphere, or spirituality, it could just as well be used to affirm or sustain those same or other aspects.
