Jinx's Magic is the second book in Sage Blackwood's highly acclaimed fantasy-adventure series, Jinx. This humorous and smart tween trilogy set in a magical forest is perfect for fans of Angie Sage's Septimus Heap, Michael Buckley's the Sisters Grimm, and Brandon Mull's Fablehaven.

"Readers will thrill to journey with Jinx" (Jinx, School Library Journal, starred review), a daring young wizard's apprentice, as he travels from his home in the Urwald to an unfamiliar desert land in search of ancient magic. He needs that magic badly—there are forces threatening the Urwald from all sides.

The more he learns, however, the clearer it becomes that this quest will require more than the magic of a solitary wizard's apprentice, and soon he'll have to call upon all of the Urwald—witches, werewolves, wizards, and trees—for help.

A perfect sequel to Jinx!  Jinx is out from under Simon's wing, a powerful wizard in his own right, and able to explore a much larger slice of his world, and perhaps another world, than he could as a young child.  Freed from his dependence on Simon the possibly-not-evil wizard, he starts to realize how much he cares about Simon as a person.  And he faces difficult choices, realizing that good and evil are not simple.  There's his friend Reven, who is loyal, kind, courteous, honorable (well, for a thief), and, incidentally, the single greatest threat to the Urwald and its inhabitants.  There's Dame Glammer, who's probably evil, but always seems to end up helping Jinx out.  There's his crush Elfwyn, who always tells the truth - and, as a result, can't be trusted.  There's the hilariously pompous Witch Seymour, who's probably not evil, but very gossipy - and an invaluable source of information for Jinx (which is good) and for Reven (which is perhaps not so good).  And all this is before Jinx goes to Samara, not for a brief bewildering visit as before, but to study banned magic, and possibly get involved with an outlawed conspiracy...

I loved Jinx and Jinx's Magic. They are both well written and I love the humor. I cannot wait to see how Jinx will save Simon. HE HAS TO! I have been recommending this book to the students at our school. Most of them give great reviews. It is a little long for some of them but a great story will keep you entertained no matter how long the book it. I love leaving this reality and entering the land of Fantasy. Sage Blackwood is a great writer and I want to read more.

This second book was a perfect sequel to the first. I felt anxiety with the character and loved the fact we get to explore Samara. The plot kept thickening and getting interesting. Of course it ends with a cliffhanger so I'm desperate to get ahold of a third, but I don't see any announcements for a third.
