Overview

Recorded and released in 1961, Judy at Carnegie Hall is one of the greatest live albums of all time, and the greatest of Garland's career. There's true electricity in each song, and her renditions of "That's Entertainment," "The Man That Got Away," and "Come Rain or Come Shine" will give you goose bumps, they're so loaded with emotion. With relentless verve, Garland takes on her entire musical catalogue with astonishing aplomb. There is little sign of the decades of self-abuse which had left her frail by the early '60s. But what we are fortunate enough to have is the magic and youth of her voice. Especially poignant are "You Go to My Head," "Just You, Just Me," and her reading of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."

I had the pleasure of being there 40 years ago, and this recording enables me to relive the experience....It's Judy at her best. The concert was a perfect piece of show-business history, and this album captures Garland's genius. Treat yourself!!

This is really the best performance of Judy's career. The audience responds warmly, Garland's voice is at a strong point, and the flawless violins & horns are great arrangements. The featured improvement that is my favvorite, I'd say, is the return of ''Alone Toegether.'' On the previous edition it was replaced by a studio version from missing tapes. ''You go to my Head'' is hysterical where she forgets the words and keeps on improvising until she remembers. A great album for everyone of all ages, Judy fans or not!

Judy's fantastic mesmerization, like no other, shines brilliantly in this great concert. Swing/belt/croon or whisper-soft, she is the best there ever was. She redefined inimitable. This 40th is better than the original, which I've loved for 40 years, and being a hit (again) in 2001 is such a touching tribute to her immense talent. Judy Garland truly was one-of-a-kind. Bravo!

Judy sings incredibly, with passion, verve, tenderness, and complete openness. All emotions seem to be bared in her expert, virtuosic, energetic performance. I am absolutely jealous of anyone who was able to attend the concert. The orchestral accompaniment on some of the songs is absolutely inspired (hear ''That's Entertainment'' and ''You Go to My Head'' as phenomenal examples of ensemble playing). Finally, Judy's storytelling in between songs is worth the price of the CD; her stories about the English newspaper columnist, the Parisian hairdresser, and an experience with a safety pin are told with drollness, self-deprecation, and perspicacious observation.

If you ask me THIS is the Golden Age of Judy Garland, not the insipid MGM years which are highly overated. Garland's voice was at her strongest. She was 39 years old and her voice shows no sign of the devistation as it does on the London Palladium album 6 years later. She banters with the audience and her, "I'll sing 'em all we'll stay all night!!" has become a catch phrase among Garland afficiandos. This ia a MUST for any JUDY collector!!

Excellent quality recording of the COMPLETE concert...every golden second of it...This rendition of Over the Rainbow gives me goosebumps and Do It Again and San Francisco reveal Judy's rare pure range and talent! Over The Rainbow was voted THE #1 song of the 20th century. Judy Garland IS THE #1 singer of the century!!
