Instant #1 New York Times bestseller!
A young attorney tries her first case . . . and it's Murder One in a legal thriller from the world's #1 bestselling writer.

Ruby Bozarth, a newcomer to Rosedale, Mississippi, is also fresh to the Mississippi Bar--and to the docket of Circuit Judge Baylor, who taps Ruby as defense counsel in a racially charged felony.
The murder of a woman from one of the town's oldest families has Rosedale's upper crust howling for blood, and the prosecutor is counting on Ruby's inexperience to help him deliver a swift conviction. Ruby's client is a college football star who has returned home after a career-ending injury, and she is determined to build a defense that will stick. She finds help in unexpected quarters from Suzanne, a hard-charging attorney armed to the teeth, and Shorty, a diner cook who knows more than he lets on.
Ruby never belonged to the country-club set, but once she nearly married into it. As news breaks of a second murder, Ruby's ex-fiancé, Lee Greene, shows up on her doorstep--a Southern gentleman in need of a savior. As lurid, intertwining investigations unfold, no one in Rosedale can be trusted, especially the twelve men and women impaneled on the jury. They may be hiding the most incendiary secret of all.

For me, too much of the story was unbelievable, especially the naivete of the 'junkyard' attorney

Definitely not his best work or close to it. Maybe write less books and do a better job

Lawyer & Author Nancy Allen clearly contributed to this incredible story--I hope Allen receives at least half of the royalties, or more!

I’m not sure if this is his first book about new attorney Ruby Bozarth but I hope not. He and his co-author, Nancy Allen, have brought an eager, young, and exciting character into the world of criminal law and I look forward to reading more of her talents for solving cases.

What a thrill this book was! It's actually two stories in one, and through both stories we learn about young Ruby, fresh into the legal world. She is one sharp cookie, but at times, I certainly wondered about her common sense. This could easily be a great series. Author Nancy Allen shines here because I do not see much of the usual, scary work of James Patterson. Well-done!

One reviewer suggessed he write less. I don't think he writes at all! Authors that are trying to make a name just let him slap his name on the cover. He must be very desperate for money to lower himself to do commercials to beg for book sales. He's not getting any more money from me.

This is one of my favorite James Patterson novels by co-author Nancy Allen. And there are many great novels by James Patterson. Allen made the story fun, fast paced and full of action in this Mississippi legal thriller, featuring a start up young attorney thrown into a mix of fancy and rag tag characters. This was a total pleasure to enjoy. I just looked up Nancy Allen who is also the author of the Ozarks Mystery Series and can hardly wait for another Allen adventure. Looks like in that series the protagonist is a female PROSECUTOR? Wow. Meanwhile, look forward to a Juror #3 sequel because I am not complete with my longing for Ruby!
